The Los Angeles Lakers’ newest superstar Luka Doncic will have the chance to team up with one of the game’s greatest-ever in the next chapter of his career.
The 6-foot-6, 25-year-old — who was recently dealt from the Dallas Mavericks to LA together with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie — is set to lace his kicks alongside LeBron James, and Doncic is savoring the opportunity that is upon him.
“It's just like a dream come true, you know,” said the 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year during his introductory press conference on early Wednesday morning, Manila time in LA.
“I always looked up to him, and there are so many things I can learn from him. I’m just excited to learn everything and get to play with him. It’s an amazing feeling,” added the Slovenian star.

Doncic is joining a Lakers squad that is currently looking to rise the ranks and regain their status as one of the contenders in the league, and he said that James has done his part in making the transition easier to the squad which will definitely benefit from his prowess.
“He called me right away. He was in New York, and he called me right away,” shared Luka. “But we didn’t talk much because he said: ‘I understand what you’re feeling.’ But that was just really nice of him to call me right away and welcome me to LA.”
Doncic and James are both high IQ players who can create for themselves and also for their teammates, and this, according to the 2018 Draft’s third-overall pick, will be translate well for the Lakers, opposite to the narratives that there would be issues about how they fit.
“We both make our teammates better. Our IQs are very high, so I think that’s gonna help everybody,” said Doncic.
The former Real Madrid star is expected to make his debut as an LA Laker this weekend against the Golden State Warriors, and for Doncic, the key to making things work is staying patient until they eventually get things going on the hardwood.
“I’m just excited to work with [LeBron] and work every day here,” he pointed out. “Every day that goes by is gonna be better.”
