MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines (UP) men's basketball team head coach Goldwin Monteverde wrote on social media this Friday his heartfelt appreciation to the school's "backbone of success" in UAAP Season 87.
Monteverde gave credit to the unwavering backing of their supporters, fans, and everyone who played a role to the team's triumphant run this year.
"The past few days have been overwhelming, so before I forget, allow me to extend my heartfelt thanks to our families, managers, sponsors, friends, coaches, student managers, utility staff, and of course, the AMAZING UP COMMUNITY. Your unwavering support has been the backbone of our success," he said.

"Our team's commitment and hard work have brought us this far. None of this would have been possible without your patience, loud cheers, and prayers," he went on.

Monteverde also dedicated this year's men's basketball title to his parents.
"Sa mga matatapang at matatalino naming mga UP fans, this championship is for all of you and for my beloved parents. Thank you for always being there and never giving up on us, win or lose."

The Fighting Maroons, after two years of heartbreaks — settling for two consecutive silver medals — have finally ended the dry spell to clinch their second championship in four years.
They defeated De La Salle University in Game 3 of the finals, 66-62, held last Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
