Ateneo coach Oliver Almadro apologized to fans prior to the Premier Volleyball League all-star game on Saturday, as Lady Eagles players sat out the event.
In an article by ABS-CBN Sports' Mark Escarlote, Deanna Wong, Kat Tolentino, Bea De Leon, rookie Vannie Gandler and libero Dani Ravena participated in the fan meet-and-greet but did not play.
Maddie Madayag did not attend the event to work on her thesis.
“It’s admin’s decision,” said Almadro, who coached Team Red. “Of course, ayaw naman nating salungatin ’yan kasi UAAP na next week.”
Ex Lady Eagle Alyssa Vadez bannered Team Blue, while National University standout Myla Pablo spearheaded Team Red.
“But sinabi naman namin na they will be part of this all-star meet-and-greet, with the parlor games and everything. We are really supporting the cause of the ABS-CBN and the PVL All-Star kung para saan talaga ito. It just so happens na next week UAAP na. If this happened December, ibang usapan. That’s why we’re very sorry,” Almadro said.
“I know naman the PVL will understand. The other players din really wanted to support this cause kaya nandito sila,” he added.
In the end, Team Red beat Team Blue, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20.
