MANILA — The Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections slated this year would not be delayed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday, amid false information about its supposed "postponement."
No more postponement for Bangsamoro parliamentary elections: Comelec
Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said they see no reason to postpone this anymore.
“Mayroon kasing nagsi-circulate sa social media, sinasabing ililipat. Wag kayong maniniwala diyan,” Laudiangco said.
“Malinaw ang RA 12123 na ang BARMM Parliamentary Elections ay sa Oct. 13 at karugtong ito ng ating May elections. Dahil dito naipa-certify na ng Comelec ang ating software, na-review na ang source code. Nai-deposit na sa Bangko Sentral,” he added.
Laudiangco said aside from these preparations, their voting machines and Starlinks have been checked and tested as well for the polls set on Oct. 13.
Mock elections were also done nearly more than a week ago, he said.
“Ngayong araw na ito magsisimula na kami mag-imprenta ng balota bilang unang batch at ite-test natin itong kahandaan nating lahat... All in all, wala kaming nakikitang problema at magiging cause of delay sa ating paghahanda,” said Laudiangco
Poll body chief George Garcia earlier appealed to Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua that they resolve the reallocation of seven seats originally allocated to Sulu.
Comelec earlier assured the public that it would follow Bangsamoro’s election code.
BARMM, created as part of the peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, has an appointed transitional government and is set to hold parliamentary elections this October 13.
Based on BARMM’s calendar of activities posted by the Comelec, the election period would be from August 14 to October 18, while the campaign period would be slated from August 28 to October 11.
