“Blood vs Duty” cleverly established the complicated connection between the two tough-hearted protagonists, Jalil Abubakar (Gerald Anderson) and Marcus Reyes (Richard Gutierrez).
Following General Carillo’s (Bodjie Pascua) evil schemes at Isla Damai, which eventually ignited the animosity between Jalil and Marcus, the duo soon grew out of their conflicts, as completing each mission gave them the opportunity to form a bond that could take down their true foes.
The first battle of Marcus and Jalil at Isla Damai
From the very beginning, Task Force Alpha’s main objectives were to investigate and prevent the widespread trafficking of illegal firearms throughout the country, and this began with the capture of the suspected mastermind, Datu Rahman (Jaime Fabregas) at Isla Damai.
The man in charge of TFA was none other than Marcus, who also tried to prevent a shootout, until Felix (Baron Geisler) went against his orders, resulting in the massacre of Isla Damai’s Tausug community.
During the course of the intense battle, Marcus came across Jalil, who was one of the protectors of the island. By using their equal strengths, Marcus fought to fulfill his duty while Jalil stood up for his fallen people.
Marcus unmasks Jalil in the Dapayan Warehouse
Just after the arrested Datu Rahman got abducted midway through his transfer to a different facility, both Marcus and Jalil conducted personal investigations about his whereabouts, believing that the Datu’s life was in danger.
The two then discovered the location of the Dapayan Warehouse from the CCTV footage that recorded the van containing Datu Rahman. Knowing that they previously battled on the island, their fight escalated even more the moment they ran into each other, ending with Marcus removing Jalil’s mask.
Jalil as Major Allan Espina clashes with Marcus
As soon as Jalil took on the identity of Police Major Allan Espina, which was granted to him by the Presidential Chief of Staff Ahmad Mustapha (Robin Padilla), he immediately monitored the actions of Marcus, checking to see if he was hiding something suspicious.
One evening, Marcus realized that Jalil followed him to an alley, where they nearly shot one another. To clarify matters, Jalil spoke about his duty of investigating the Isla Damai Massacre, deeming Marcus among the people he must observe.
Jalil and Marcus defend one another during a hostage situation
Given the fact that Jalil is eligible to take part in any Task Force Alpha missions, he decided to get involved during the operation to resolve the hostage situation triggered by Metal 13 at the S. Trinidad Hospital. Before they entered the building, Marcus and Jalil had another argument, until they finally came up with a strategy while Director Azuelo (Rommel Padilla) was negotiating with the syndicate.
A few moments later, Axl (Marc Abaya), one of Metal 13’s leaders, realized that they were being deceived and ordered his men to retaliate. At that point, Marcus’ and Jalil’s dispute was put on hold since they were protecting each other against their adversaries.
Jalil appreciates Marcus’ efforts to protect Datu Rahman
On the day that Datu Rahman declared his surrender, as per the plan proposed by Ahmad, he was then quickly handed over to NLEA. Moreover, it was during that situation when Marcus and Jalil had a discussion concerning Task Force Alpha’s duty to safeguard the Datu until the time of Ahmad’s arrival.
At last letting go of his resentment, Jalil revealed that he truly understood Marcus’ attempts to retrieve Datu Rahman from being locked up inside the ZylveriX building. Upon witnessing Marcus’ tense expression, Jalil made it clear that he wouldn’t disclose the information to anyone else.
Jalil learns about Marcus’ younger brother
On the way to Marcus’ residence, considering that Jalil was also invited by Teresa (Susan Africa) for a family dinner, Marcus spoke openly regarding his younger brother’s tragic disappearance.
At times, Marcus wished to be the one who perished but ultimately decided to bring meaning to his own life in hopes that his brother Gabriel’s death wouldn’t be in vain. To brighten up the mood, Jalil made a small joke and assured Marcus that Gabriel would be very proud of him.
Teresa, Marcus, and Jalil enjoy a heartfelt meal together
When they arrived at their destination, Jalil, Marcus, and Teresa found themselves perfectly content with their meals and casual conversations. Unexpectedly, Teresa became emotional, expressing that she was simply delighted that the dinner table was once again complete.
Marcus invites Jalil and Task Force Alpha to a team dinner
Wanting to organize more gatherings, Teresa soon invited all the members of Task Force Alpha, as well as her nursing staff, to a team dinner. The instant Jalil walked in, she softly reminded him and Marcus of their best-loved vegetable meals that she had cooked for them. Upon hearing this, Marcus suddenly joked about Jalil being Teresa’s current favorite.
Jalil gets saved by Marcus right after the explosion
Task Force Alpha is certainly loaded with duties to fulfill, particularly during the Miraikona Economic Summit, which was the venue for the official investment deal between the Philippines and Japan.
Along with this, General Carillo orchestrated another tragic incident through forcing tourist guides Benny (Nico Antonio) and Lydia (Nikki Valdez) to hold the Japanese tourists as their hostages. Even though Marcus dealt with the negotiations and Jalil offered to get in the tourist bus as a medic to treat a wounded passenger, the vehicle suddenly exploded, killing everyone on board.
Jalil got swept away by the powerful explosion, but Marcus made every effort to locate him. When he did so, certain aspects of Jalil’s childhood memories resurfaced, and he whispered about Marcus being his older brother.
Ahmad, Marcus, and Jalil join forces against Gen. Carillo’s henchmen
At the peak of the enemy’s schemes, Ahmad soon became the target of General Carillo’s ruthless accomplices, which included General Solares (Eric Fructuoso). It was just after Ahmad’s and General Carillo’s interview with Maya Mae Kalaw (Tootsy Angara) when Jalil noticed that Ahmad was being chased by a group of gunmen, with the intent of eliminating him for good.
Both Jalil and Marcus rode their motorcycles and defeated the majority of their opponents. Once they regrouped with Ahmad, he provided the two with larger weapons, which they quickly mastered.
