In this exclusive interview, Angeline reflected on her journey as a singer, sharing her pre-show rituals, dream collaborations, and some of her most unforgettable moments with Vice Ganda.
For the Queen of Teleserye Theme Songs, knowing every detail of her schedule is essential. When asked how she prepares for performances, Angeline emphasized the importance of knowing the nature of the event and the audience she'll be singing for.
“Importante ‘yun para siguro ma-prepare ko rin ‘yung mga tamang songs na kakantahin,” she explained.
Angeline shared that she often receives song requests even for anniversaries and birthday celebrations. Interestingly, many of them are sad songs, but she gladly honors the requests as part of her commitment to her craft. For her, understanding the occasion is key to delivering a performance that resonates with the audience.
As a seasoned singer, Angeline considers prayer her most important pre-performance routine. “’Yun ‘yung hindi talaga dapat kinakalimutan at kumbaga automatic na talaga sa akin kahit nasaan ako,” she shared. She also revealed some practical habits she follows before performing, including avoiding chocolates and nuts because they affect her throat, while noting that drinking cold water works fine for her.
Since her remarkable win in the reality competition “Star Power” in 2011, Angeline’s signature hit “Patuloy Ang Pangarap” has remained an anthem of inspiration. Even today, she considers it her favorite song to perform.
“Para sa mga taong napapagod ma-achieve ‘yung mga dreams nila, na kahit nahihirapan sila sa moment na ’to, ipagpatuloy lang nila ‘yung pangarap nila,” she said.
Reflecting on her most challenging performance, Angeline recalled her very first “ASAP” appearance right after winning “Star Power.” “Sanay kasi ako na nasa contest, so after nun, ‘yun ‘yung first Sunday na nanalo na ako. Parang nilabas ka sa ‘PBB’ house tapos pinakanta ka agad,” she shared, describing the experience as nerve-racking yet unforgettable.
Recalling one of her funniest onstage moments, Angeline shared the time a fan rushed toward her as she stepped down to interact with the audience. “’Yung kanta ko medyo upbeat, so may tumatakbong nanay papunta sa akin. Parang natapilok pa ata siya, sumubsob siya papunta sa akin,” she said.
Now celebrating her 15th year in the entertainment industry, Angeline continues to dream of collaborating with some of today’s most beloved artists—including the K-pop group BTS. “Para maisama nila ako sa world tour nila,” she said, imagining herself performing alongside Jungkook.
Beyond her career milestones, Angeline also highlighted her close friendship with Vice Ganda. She fondly recalled one of their most memorable moments together—the gender reveal party Vice hosted for her and her son, Sylvio. “Isa kasi si Ate Vice sa mga nasabihan ko nung 2021 na buntis ako… kaya sa bahay niya ginawa,” she shared. Angeline expressed her deep gratitude to Vice for being not only a dear friend but also like family to her.
Capping off the interview, Angeline showcased her signature biritera style with an emotional rendition of her favorite Vice Ganda song, “Whoops Kirri.”
