In his most recent Kapamilya Chat guest appearance, Joshua Garcia played an insightful game called “To Love or To Betray, That Is the Question,” where he shared his raw and unfiltered opinions on relationships.
In this challenge, the “Love Is Never Gone” actor went through some of the most common conflicts between couples one by one, choosing whether he felt loved or betrayed based on each scenario.
For the first scenario, Joshua dealt with a hypothetical situation in which his partner kept a secret from him. He values open and honest communication in a partner. While he understands that there are both small and big secrets, he admitted that he would still feel betrayed if this were to happen to him.
“Kung mahal mo rin ‘yung isang tao, hindi ka maglilihim eh,” he explained. “Mahalin mo ako kung sino ako—ganun ‘yun eh.”
Holding grudges was the next scenario Joshua had to ponder. He was quick to acknowledge that some people are simply not confrontational, which prevents them from fully expressing their emotions. He further explained, “That’s love pa rin for me. … Pick your battles. Hindi lahat kailangan mong patulan.”
Lashing out at your partner over a mistake can lead to intense arguments—especially if they’ve just come home from work exhausted. But for Joshua, he chooses to be patient with what his girlfriend is going through, opting to calm her down instead. He said he would feel loved just the same, whether it happened in private or in public.
Almost all surprises come at the cost of someone’s honesty. Joshua said he would feel loved if his girlfriend lied to him to cover up a surprise celebration. Drawing from his own experience planning surprises, he shared that he now prefers more intimate celebrations, in contrast to how he used to celebrate when he was younger.
Missing a partner’s career milestone can be a huge dealbreaker for some. Fortunately for Joshua’s future girlfriend, this isn’t the case. His work as an actor—which requires time and full commitment—has led him to understand that it won’t be the first time this might happen. “Kailangan unang beses pa lang, maintindihan na, especially in our job,” he explained.
Lastly, Joshua faced a hypothetical situation in which his partner forgot to greet him “happy anniversary” after working overtime. Like in the previous scenarios, he didn’t make a big deal out of it but for an unexpected reason: he admitted that he also tends to forget significant dates. In his defense, he finds it difficult to keep track of important occasions.
“Hindi naman ibig sabihin na hindi ka importante sa’kin,” he said in his defense. “It’s just that hindi ako ganu’n katalino na i-memorize ‘yung mga birthdays.”
