Behind her exceptionally powerful, emotional, and versatile singing voice, Asia’s Timeless Diva, Dulce, visits the colorful world of “Kuan On One” on its February 24 episode. Other than comical recollections, heartfelt reminiscing of her Bisdak roots, and remembering her lauded musical journey, Dulce joyfully participates in the musical edition of the “Dakong Problema” segment.

The “Random Letter Song Challenge”prompts both Dulce and Melai to pick a random situation that will serve as the theme of their impromptu song. They are then given a letter from which they must create the first word of their lyrics and exchange ideas while keeping up with each other’s vocal rhythm, ultimately creating their on-the-spot Bisdak song.

Instantly acing the first round, which revolves around “Ang Pagpangga Sa Usa Ka Inahan,” or “A Mother’s Love,” Melai easily thinks of the Visayan word “duyan,” or “cradle,” for the first letter “D.” This sets the song’s tone to be a nostalgic narrative of a mother gently putting her children to sleep.

Dulce follows through with ease, beginning her verse with “uguy,” meaning to rock or sway the cradle. In return, Melai gives the word “luoy,” evoking a gentle compassion for a child who might get dizzy from the motions.

After recovering from her chuckles at Melai’s humorous idea, Dulce adorably fumbles at the last line, hastily blending Visayan with English with “care kaayo.” This still perfectly emphasizes the song’s lyricism about mothers pouring all their love and care into their children, wishing them a peaceful slumber.

Going in for another round, the two stars are given the topic “Ang Kaisog Sa Usa Ka Bisaya,” which translates to “The Bravery of a Visayan.” Making their final shot even more entertaining, Melai uses a playful term for an unserious confrontation: “kulatahon,” which means to hit someone. She clarifies in her lyrics, however, that it is directed only at a sinful person.

Dulce seamlessly adds to Melai’s concept with her “unsaun pa,” implying that she’s considering the next step in handling the person’s letter to her, showing the attempts at reconciliation.

Sparking more laughter, Melai responds with “ayaw,” not wanting to experience Dulce’s wrath as articulated in the lyrics. Swiftly answering, Dulce follows with “naunsaman,” asking for clarification on the next steps of their conflict, and, even slipping in a reference to Visayan ancestors and Lapu-Lapu.

The challenge ends on an excited note and collective cheers, with the staff clapping and celebrating Melai and Dulce’s fun and successful duet.

Look forward to more cozy conversations with Kuantie Melai on “Kuan on One,” streaming every Tuesday on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel and on iWant.
