Despite being packed with action-thriller scenes, one of the most anticipated highlights in “Roja” is none other than Olsen (Kyle Echarri) and Ice’s (Kai Montinola) growing connection---and fans can’t help but gush at every Olsen-Ice moment on screen. 1. Grateful Olsen
After crossing paths and becoming allies to fight the goons, Ice helps Olsen’s mother, Wendy (Janice de Belen), with her wounds. Olsen thanks her, impressed that she’s more than just an influencer. “Nag-nursing ka rin pala.”
Ice reveals that taking up Nursing was her mother’s choice, but she promised that once she escapes the siege, she’ll obey anything her mother wants her to do. From behind, Wendy tells Olsen to listen to Ice---and this marks the start of how Olsen and Ice got to know each other.
2. Ice and Olsen's promise
In search of Chief Ben (Levi Ignacio) and Fin (Igi Boy Flores), Ice and Olsen continue roaming the resort premises with guns in hand. In between, the two share small talks---including the first things they’d do once they finally gain freedom.
Ice shares that she would immediately spend time with her mother, wishing to see her enjoy her favorite food, inihaw na liempo, with her---though she admits she’d have to limit her mom for health reasons. Olsen listens with a smile, even saying he’d love to join them, reminding Ice to seize every moment and not dwell on other problems. Later, he promises Ice that they will escape the siege safely.
3. Ice hugs Olsen
Ice and Olsen unfortunately bump into Uno’s (Joel Torre) armed men. With no experience in combat, Ice watches in fear as Olsen fights back, even using his Arnis skills against them. When one of the goons threatens to shoot, Olsen manages to turn the tables and fires instead.
However, another goon tries to attack him, prompting Ice to scream his name in warning. As Olsen grapples with the man, Ice raises her gun to aim, wanting to help, but Olsen manages to shoot him at close range. When the coast is finally clear, Ice quickly runs to Olsen and hugs him tight. “Tibayan mo lang ang loob mo, ha? Hindi kita pababayaan.” Olsen promises, assuring her with his words.
4. Escape Together
Trying to stay out of Uno’s sight, Olsen and Ice slip into the ventilation vent to check on the guests inside the banquet hall. As they crawl closer together, they exchange whispers not to get caught, and Ice gazes at him intently as she listens.
“Kaya mo pa?” Olsen asks Ice, concerned for her well-being. “Kakayanin,” she affirms, and Olsen gives her a light pat on the head. “Konti na lang, malapit na tayo,” he assures, easing the tension she feels.
5. Ice to Olsen: “Bilib na ‘ko sa'yo”
After parting ways, with Ice guiding the guests to a safer hideout, while Olsen leads the others to escape after the banquet hall explosion, the two reunite at their safe house.
Ice approaches Olsen. “Grabe ka, Olsen, alam mo ba sobrang worried ako sa inyo. Akala ko hindi na tayo magkikita.” she says, concern written all over her face. “Bilib na ’ko sa’yo,” she adds.
“Mas bilib nga ako sa'yo eh.” Olsen reiterates. “Nadala mo sila [guests] nang ligtas dito [sa safe house]. Salamat, Ice.” Ice replies that it was the right thing to do, though she still hopes to escape with everyone soon. “’Wag kang mag-alala, okay? Makakalabas tayo,” he assures, holding her for comfort.
6. Jealous Boyfriend
Before the siege, Ice was in a relationship with fellow influencer Bogs (Emilio Daez), one of the resort’s VIP guests. The two were separated during the chaos but later reunite when Ice escapes the banquet hall with them. “Mahal, hindi pa pala ako nagpapasalamat sa'yo.” Bogs says, thanking Ice for saving him and the others.
However, Ice says he should not thank her but give his appreciation to Olsen instead, who comes closer and overhears their conversation. Olsen and Bogs exchange looks. “Pare, salamat,” Bogs says, offering a handshake. They introduce themselves, with Bogs adding, “Boyfriend [ako] ni Ice,” followed by an awkward silence between the three.
As the siege continues, Olsen and Ice’s chemistry blooms amid the chaos. And with “Roja” now at its mid-season, we can’t wait to see more of them---alongside the rising tension and revelations that follow.
