What once seemed like a formidable alliance between two of the most feared clans in Manila’s criminal underworld, the Guerreros and the Montenegros, has unraveled into a full-blown war rooted in blood and secrets buried for generations.

The core of this long-brewing saga began when Ramon (then Coco Martin, now Christopher de Leon) assaulted Marites (then Miles Ocampo, now Cherry Pie Picache) out of his twisted desire to secure an heir who would continue the Montenegro legacy. That incident would later lead to the birth of Tanggol (Coco Martin). For years, Marites and her mom Tindeng (then Lara Quigaman, now Charo Santos) kept the truth from him but the weight of the past eventually became too heavy to hide.
Once the Montenegro bloodline was finally completed with Tanggol joining his real father Ramon and grandfather Don Julio (Tommy Abuel), the next move was to further strengthen their business empire by forming an alliance with the equally powerful political dynasty of the Guerreros. This was when the Guerrero patriarch, Don Gustavo (Dante Rivero), was introduced in the story along with his wife Doña Pilar (Celia Rodriguez) and their children—Olivia (Chanda Romero) and Roberto (Albert Martinez).
At first, it was established that Roberto and his wife Jackie (Angel Aquino) have two children: the politically ambitious Miguelito (Jake Cuenca), seen as the family's future leader, and Erika (Gillian Vicencio), the black sheep of the family. Olivia, meanwhile, had a son named Inigo (Albie Casiño), who was recently killed in a bombing incident.
As the Guerreros entered the picture, their long-hidden skeletons slowly got exposed, starting with the family's matriarch, Doña Pilar, and her secret past with Don Julio. Back then, Pilar (Louise Delos Reyes in flashbacks) was already married to Don Gustavo (Arnold Reyes in flashbacks) when she got involved in a forbidden relationship with Don Julio. The affair that was driven by political ambition led to the birth of Olivia, and that explains why Gustavo remained naturally distant toward her even though he only learned the truth recently, and why Don Julio, in contrast, showed her affection.
That makes Olivia and Ramon half-siblings on their father’s side—two Montenegros by blood who now find themselves caught in a brewing rivalry, especially with Ramon’s son Tanggol stepping into the political arena.
But as they say, the deeper the roots, the darker the secrets. One of the most staggering revelations in the story was the truth about Miguelito’s parentage. He'd always been a devoted son to Roberto, only to discover that he is actually the child of Don Gustavo, the very man he grew up calling grandfather. The rest of the family had known all along.
Viewers felt every ounce of Miguelito's disbelief when he learned that his mom Jackie was once Don Gustavo's kept woman, and to cover up what would be a scandal, Roberto saved the family's image and married Jackie, raising Miguelito as his own to protect the family’s name. That makes Roberto and Miguelito brothers, not father and son.
Behind all the chaos is the Guerrero patriarch, Don Gustavo, who turns out to be Marites’ biological father as well. The shocking truth traces back to their younger years when Tindeng (Elisse Joson in flashbacks) worked at the municipal hall where Gustavo (Jhong Hilario in flashbacks) was still serving as mayor. Tindeng was set to marry her fiancé Alfredo (Joseph Marco in flashbacks), but on the day of their wedding, she was forcibly taken by Gustavo and repeatedly abused. That horrific ordeal led to the birth of Marites.
This makes Marites' son, Tanggol, both a Montenegro and a Guerrero by blood. And in a twist of fate, Miguelito’s mortal enemy turns out to be his own nephew.
This layered bloodline makes the Guerrero-Montenegro feud even more personal and tragic but it also leaves a few lingering questions, like whether Erika (Gillian Vicencio) is truly a Guerrero by blood as viewers are growing increasingly speculative about her budding closeness with Santino (Ronwaldo Martin), who, if the connections align, could turn out to be her cousin.
