“KathReid,” the portmanteau coined by fans, quickly became a hot topic on social media following one of the biggest entertainment announcements of the year. In a twist no one thought would actually happen outside of fan edits, Asia's Superstar Kathryn Bernardo and Multimedia Prince James Reid are finally teaming up for real.
Dreamscape Entertainment just made it official—Kathryn and James, who fans only used to imagine together through “KathReid” edits (and yes, shippers have been manifesting this since 2016), are set to headline their first teleserye together.
The production unit first teased viewers with the announcement of Kathryn making her return to television. The reveal came through a 30-second video showing the Kapamilya queen all glammed up and striking poses for photos.
A week later, Dreamscape leveled up the hype with another teaser that read, “Someone is joining her.” This sparked endless speculations, theories, and guesses from fans eager to know what it could mean. On August 29, the mystery was finally solved when they revealed James as Kathryn’s leading man in an upcoming series, turning the long-simmering “KathReid” dream into reality.
The teaser reel also gave a first look at their chemistry. In the clip, James taps Kathryn on the shoulder and asks if she’s “game na” for this project, to which she responds with excitement before they pose together in a photo shoot. It might have been just a quick 'pasilip' but enough to spark ‘kilig’ across social media timelines.
Kathryn's last project on the small screen was the 2022 rom-com "2 Good 2 Be True," which she starred in with her then-love team partner Daniel Padilla. On the big screen, she recently reunited with Alden Richards to headline "Hello, Love, Again," now the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time. She also served as a judge in the latest edition of "Pilipinas Got Talent."
James first headlined a Kapamilya series via "On the Wings of Love" in 2015, followed by "Till I Met You" in 2016, both opposite his then-love team partner Nadine Lustre.
