Misunderstandings and disputes among couples are definitely normal, right? While we love our partners so much, there are just instances when we tend to have opposing views or get really on each other’s nerves, which causes tension.

However, we know a couple who seem to have made fighting with each other a part of their daily routine, as a day wouldn’t simply pass by without them arguing. We may have wanted to call it a lovers’ quarrel, but it was revealed to be a one-sided kind since it was only the woman who had been so in love in their marriage, while the man still hasn’t moved on yet from his mistresses.

And they’re none other than Don Gustavo and Doña Pilar of the Guerrero family in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” compellingly portrayed by veteran thespians Dante Rivero and Celia Rodriguez. Let us look back on 10 of the intense quarrels between the king and queen of the Guerrero family via this episode of Kapamilya Toplist.

Since she is her firstborn and her daughter, it’s quite inevitable for Pilar to be closer and more protective of Olivia (Chanda Romero), who was later on revealed as her daughter with Don Julio Montenegro (Tommy Abuel). Thus, when the time had come that their family had to choose who should run for mayor, Pilar lobbied for Olivia during one of her conversations with him.

But since they are patriarchal, Don Gustavo looked down at women in their family, saying that they do not have the competence and sense of leadership that the position highly requires.

As they suffer from lack of funds, Pilar pinned the blame on Gustavo since he bequeathed a chunk of their family’s real estate properties to his mistress, Matilde (Charo Santos). This has caused her to ask for the help of the Montenegros during their campaigns over the past years in exchange for giving herself to Don Julio.

Apart from Matilde, it was eventually revealed that Gustavo also had an illicit affair with Jackie (Angel Aquino) before, which spawned Miguelito (Jake Cuenca). After all these years, it seems that Gustavo has actually not moved on yet from her, as he often chooses to side with her and defend her whenever she and Pilar fight. Besides, she even caught him having a quite intimate moment with Jackie, which he strongly denied.

Gustavo then had a taste of his own medicine when Pilar finally confessed after so many decades that Olivia was actually her child with Julio. According to her, it happened after she was compelled to give herself up to Julio in exchange for his support to Gustavo.

Apparently affected by that shocking revelation and driven by lust, Gustavo forced himself on Jackie that night, which Pilar was able to catch. Instead of watching them from afar or walking away just like what she usually does every time that happens, Pilar furiously stopped them, and a scorching confrontation ensued between them. He accused her of having sex with other men aside from Julio, which, of course, enraged Pilar, and she went on to call him evil.

And the couple didn’t care if they fought in front of the other members of their family or over food during one of their breakfasts. One of them was that instance when Pilar reminded him that it was she who made most of the efforts and sacrifices in order to put him and their family in power, as well as to give everything that they’d been relishing. This happened so many times, with Gustavo telling her that she didn’t build him up and that she only used him for her own ambitions.

Their squabble got more intense and worse when Gustavo learned that Tindeng is still alive and that they even have a child together, who is Marites. As they quarreled over it, Gustavo blurted out that he indeed still loves Tindeng more than her and he actually never loved her in the decades that they’ve been together. Hearing those words indeed hurt Pilar, which finally made her decide to leave Gustavo, much to the latter’s glee and relief.

Before she left, Pilar told him that he would be the one to leave when the time comes that she will come back, which Gustavo will definitely not allow to happen.

Apart from their almost incessant clashes and discussions, we’re also able to figure out that Gustavo has never loved Pilar, as he attempted to murder her by cutting off her life support when she was left alone unconscious in her hospital room.

Is there still a possibility for Gustavo and Pilar to reconcile? Or are they already too furious with one another for it to still happen? Well, let’s all find out by not missing an episode of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” weeknights at 8 PM, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, TV5 and iWant.
