“Kuan on One” host Melai Cantiveros-Francisco opened up about her most painful experience in showbiz in a recent episode of her online Bisaya talk show featuring content creator James Torres, a.k.a. Bite King.
According to her, it happened when she got pregnant with her and her husband Jason Francisco’s first child, Amelia Lucille, in 2013, which was a few months before they got married later that year. She recalled being told that she could no longer be an artista and she didn’t have a showbiz career anymore since she already got pregnant.
This prompted her to tell one of the bosses that they could remove her from the show she was a part of at the time, as she had already accepted her fate. However, instead of instantly kicking her out, they told her that it was definitely okay, and they didn’t see any problem with it.
While that news delighted her, what saddened Kuantie Melai hearing her colleagues and friends back then telling her that she wouldn’t be able to come back because she was already pregnant. She was hurt not because they had considered them as her friends, but because they assumed that she liked the situation that she was in at the time and because they had that kind of mindset.
“Hindi naman sa hindi ko gusto kung nasaan man ako ngayon, napilitan ako dito dahil ito ang plano ng Diyos para sa akin. Sinunod ko lang,” she explained in Bisaya. “Salamat sa Diyos dahil dinala Niya ako rito. Ngayong season lang ng buhay ko na-appreciate ang biyaya na ito. Dati kasi, puno pa ako ng pagdadalawang-isip dahil pakiramdam ko ay hindi ako bagay dito.”
Kuantie Melai went on to add that she actually didn’t have any qualms about going back to her simple life in her hometown of General Santos City, even if she would have to sell fish to earn a living. After all, she’s used to the simple life.
