As he and his live-in partner Linda (Aleck Bovick) have been struggling to make both ends meet while also paying for the outstanding balance of Dimples (Criza Taa) at the hospital, Mauro (Richard Quan) had decided to swallow his pride and ask for final assistance from the city hall.
Fortunately, his efforts didn’t get to waste because he was able to speak with Vice Mayor Roberto Guerrero (Albert Martinez), who seemed to have already forgotten him until he reintroduced himself. As Roberto apologized to him for not being able to immediately recognize him, Mauro told him that it wasn’t the one he should say “sorry” for but his failure to fulfill his promise that caused him to be dismissed from his job and to be jailed for two years.
It was revealed that Mauro used to be a henchman of Roberto when he was still serving as the mayor of Manila. In his pursuit, perhaps, of earning extra money for his family, Mauro agreed to be his right-hand man, only to eventually find himself losing his job, freedom, and reputation after being arrested by his fellow officers during a transaction with one of Roberto’s business partners.
Roberto tried to help him while still in jail by providing him with a lawyer who could lessen his imprisonment to six months and by extending aid to his family in exchange for not entangling the Guerreros in the mess. Unfortunately, Roberto wasn’t able to fulfill his promise to him due to unforeseen circumstances, so Mauro ended up staying in jail for two years.
Thus, Roberto expressed his gratitude to him more than once for not getting his family involved in the crime. And as a way of showing how thankful he was for Mauro’s sacrifices, Roberto promised not just to pay for the remaining balance of his stepchild, Dimples, in the hospital, but to give him a job, as well.
