Christmas season. The time when almost everything around us is enwrapped in red, gold, green, glitters, and glimmers. The time when we hear Yuletide hymns being blasted out in almost every establishment or public place we go to. The time when we are surrounded by Christmas-themed decors. The time when we attend Simbang Gabi and Christmas parties, go Christmas shopping, and plan our holiday celebrations.

And for the past two decades, the Christmas season has been one of the most highly anticipated time of the year for avid Kapamilya fans since it’s when ABS-CBN launches its new Christmas ID, which has indeed become a part of the Filipino Yuletide tradition.

Beginning in 2002, this annual tradition has been the media company’s way of conveying its relevant and heartfelt messages about the real essence of the occasion through the specially written songs composed and arranged by some of the talented songwriters and music virtuosos not just in ABS-CBN but in the country, as well as sung by some of the finest Kapamilya singers.

It is accompanied by touching and heartwarming star-studded music videos that feature the Kapamilya (and even non-Kapamilya) personalities that became part of the programs and the overall success of ABS-CBN in the year that has passed, as well as Pinoys whose stories, works, and advocacies have brought inspiration, warmth, hope, and joy to other people.

As we enthusiastically look forward to this year’s hymn titled “Love, Joy, and Hope: Sabay tayo Ngayong Pasko,” let us first have some reminiscing about the past ABS-CBN Christmas IDs that became part of our celebrations through the years—from the earliest to the latest—via this feature.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2002: “Isang Pamilya, Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko”

It was in 2002 when ABS-CBN started the yearly tradition of gifting Kapamilyas with hearty messages of love, hope, and joy wrapped in beautiful and upbeat lyrics and melodies. And for the opening salvo, the network released its maiden anthem titled “Isang Pamilya, Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko,” which was performed by Carol Banawa.

Watching the music video is going to fill you with immense nostalgia, as it features both the brightest stars of the early 2000s and the biggest names in the industry, such as award-winning actresses Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, and Lorna Tolentino, and now late icons Dolphy and Da King Fernando Poe Jr.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2003: “DisyembRegalo”

For the second year, ABS-CBN shied away from using an anthem to convey their message, as the 2003 station ID focused on showcasing Filipino Christmas traditions featuring our beloved Kapamilya stars. Instead of music, the King of Comedy Dolphy delivered a spiel that explained what makes Pinoy Christmas stand out around the world. He then appeared at the end of the video, greeting everyone, “Maligayang Pasko sa inyong lahat, Kapamilya.”

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2004: “Sabay Tayo, Kapamilya”

Family and connection are always at the forefront of any ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID, and 2004 is no different. "Sabay Tayo, Kapamilya" is the first SID conceptualized and written by Robert Labayen and merges some of the industry's most powerful voices, such as Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Kuh Ledesma, Gary Valenciano, Sarah Geronimo, Erik Santos, Vina Morales, and a whole lot more!

Pinoy rap icon Gloc-9 also took part in the anthem, as a short rap calling for the unity of the Filipinos in spite of the differences, as well as emphasizing the beauty of our culture and tradition, was also infused into the song.

All stars of ABS-CBN then assembled in the latter part of the music video as they sang the LSS (last song syndrome)-inducing anthem—staying true to its title.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2005: “Magpasaya Ng Kapamilya”

The most unique Christmas station ID ever produced by ABS-CBN, “Magpasaya ng Kapamilya,” only ran for one minute and 55 seconds, making it the shortest. Unlike the previous station IDs, it used the humming version of the APO Hiking Society hit “Himig ng Pasko” and didn’t feature any artist.

It showcased simple acts of kindness done by ordinary people, which we tend to probably overlook as we get preoccupied by the hustles and bustles of daily life. It also pays tribute to the OFWs spending their Christmases away from home, the soldiers helping communities, and ordinary people becoming heroes to others through their benevolence.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2006: “Angat ang Ligaya ng Pasko”

“Tuloy na Tuloy Pa Rin ang Pasko” may have been a staple of music among Christmas events, but not a lot of people can probably recall that it’s part of ABS-CBN's ever-growing list of Yuletide hymns and is used in the 2006 Christmas ID. Originally by the legendary Pinoy musical group APO Hiking Society, the song was given a more upbeat twist by pop-rock band Orange & Lemons as they were tapped to render it for the “Angat ang Ligaya ng Pasko” music video.

The 2006 station ID reminds us that the true essence of Christmas is not the grandiose festivities, but Jesus Christ, whose birthday we celebrate. Thus, it should be celebrated regardless of our disposition in life. It stars various Kapamilya personalities, who were seen riding jeepneys, visiting people deprived of liberty, giving smiles to orphans via gift-giving, and other manifestations of the true Christmas spirit.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2007: “Walang Mag-iisa Ngayong Pasko”

True to its title, “Walang Mag-Iisa Ngayong Pasko” focuses on the sense of community among Filipinos, even those who are based overseas. It’s another ABS-CBN Christmas ID that didn’t have a heartwarming or cheerful song accompaniment but rather spoken messages from Kapamilya personalities that tug at our heartstrings.

Opening the 2007 station ID were veteran stars Gloria Romero, Dolphy, and Susan Roces, reminding everyone that nobody would be alone for Christmas because we are all one family. Aside from Kapamilya stars, anchors, reporters, and disc jockeys from the ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs also took center stage as among those who delivered the network’s heartfelt message to everyone. Kapamilya executive and veteran actress Charo Santos was the last celebrity to appear, saying, “Kapamilya, saanman kayo, kayo ang aming Pasko.”

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2008: “May Katuparan ang Hiling sa Kapamilyang Kapiling”

Another Christmas ID to not have a full-length anthem was the “May Katuparan ang Hiling sa Kapamilyang Kapiling,” which features several celebrities imparting their wishes for and their fondest memories of the season. Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo’s voice can be heard in the background, as she sang a few lines of its song accompaniment in several portions of the video.

It also displays sketches, doodles, and handwriting that come to life, which imply that the desires of our hearts can come true if we work hard for them, and at the right time. Kapamilya stars are asked about what they wish for Christmas, as well as what the occasion really means to them. Responses, of course, vary, but it all boils down to the true meaning of the season—granting wishes through a helping hand and generous heart.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2009: “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko”

Undoubtedly the most popular and top favorite Christmas station ID ever produced by ABS-CBN, “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko” was inspired by 2009’s top-rating primetime series “May Bukas Pa,” which was the leading teleserye of the network that year. Its music video is indeed remarkable for the handheld small “parols” or lanterns clasped by Kapamilya celebrities, while singing along with KC Concepcion, Piolo Pascual, and the ASAP Champions and Sessionistas.

Released a couple of months after the onslaught of super typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines, this station ID is a great reminder to Filipinos that no calamity or tragedy can break our faith, hope, resiliency, and even joy. This features ABS-CBN's more than 300 talents, artists, broadcasters, child stars, as well as our fellow Kapamilyas from different walks of life.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2010: “Ngayong Pasko Magniningning ang Pilipino”

Pinoy Christmas traditions truly shine in the “Ngayong Pasko Magniningning ang Pilipino” through a streak of "magic." The music video is accompanied by the magnificent song crooned by Gary Valenciano, Toni Gonzaga, and the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Singers.

In this Christmas SID, the Kapamilya network reminds us that our inherent values of love, unity, and dedication are the true sources of Pinoy pride. It also brings into the forefront various artists, organizations, teams, and performers that have showcased Filipino talents here and abroad.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2011: “Da Best ang Pasko ng Pilipino”

“Da Best ang Pasko ng Pilipino” showcases how Filipinos around the world celebrate Christmas, whether they are with their loved ones or not. Families separated by miles and oceans are able to get connected through various means of communication and are shown in split screens. It reminds us that no distance nor timezone can stop us from celebrating the occasion the Filipino way.

The song was performed by then 11-year-old Filipino-Canadian YouTube sensation Maria Aragon, together with the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus. They were joined by more than a hundred Kapamilya stars from ABS-CBN Entertainment and News and Current Affairs, Regional Network Group TV personalities, ANC and DZMM anchors, Tambayan 101.9 DJs, and Kapamilyas from the Filipino community worldwide.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2012: “Lumiliwanag ang Mundo sa Kwento ng Pasko”

Inspired by real, heartbreaking events during the height of Habagat that ravaged the country that year, the 2012 station ID aims to give hope and cheer to every Filipino, which is symbolized by Christmas lanterns in various sizes, shapes, colors, and designs. Since parol is the typical symbol of Christmas here in the Philippines, it was deliberately used throughout the music video, either as an ornament or as the main item for the artists’ gift-giving.

The music video doesn’t only feature the stars of ABS-CBN but also the inspiring stories of Filipinos affected by the said calamity and the admirable efforts of the groups and individuals who risked their lives to save others. It highlights our indefatigable bayanihan spirit that always shines and encourages us to help spread the light across the globe in our own ways.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2013: “Magkasama Tayo sa Kwento ng Pasko”

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Philippine television, ABS-CBN put into the spotlight the Kapamilya audiences whose stories ignite the company's passion. The 2013 SID pays tribute to different Filipinos with inspiring and success stories, such as the survivor-advocates of the Women's Crisis Center, a war veteran, the residents of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Home for the Aged, the kids of Boys' Institution, the brave kids of Child Haus, a Filipino couple in California that speak of true love, and the people of Cebu.

Each of the stories is told by a Kapamilya artist who also extends a helping hand to those individuals or institutions. "Magkasama Tayo sa Kwento ng Pasko" echoes the shared history of every Filipino, with “The Voice of the Philippines” coaches Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Lea Salonga leading the singing of the anthem. They are joined by their protégés Mitoy Yonting, Klarisse de Guzman, Janice Javier, and Myk Perez.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2014: “Thank you, Ang Babait Ninyo”

Drawing inspiration from a popular Pinoy Christmas jingle often sung by street carolers after being given any amount as a reward for their performance, “Thank you, Ang Babait Ninyo” truly enthuses with lyrics that have deep and evocative meaning and melody that leaves us with LSS. Since it’s often belted out by children, it was “The Voice Kids Season 1” Top 4 finalists Lyca Gairanod, Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Darlene Vibares who were asked to give life to the theme song through their mellifluous voices.

The 2014 station ID pays tribute to the people who have made significant contributions to the successes of some of our favorite Kapamilya celebrities, as well as to those individuals who have served as inspirations to others through their good deeds and sacrifices. ABS-CBN Executive Charo Santos commenced the music video, reminding us to never forget expressing our gratitude to those people who have become blessings in our lives.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2015: “Thank You For The Love”

For the first time, Kapamilya love teams comprised of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (KathNiel), Nadine Lustre and James Reid (JaDine), and Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil (LizQuen)—joined forces to sing the “Thank You For The Love” theme song. They were joined by “The Voice Kids Season 2” grand champion Elha Nympha and her coach, OPM rock icon Bamboo.

Through this station ID, some of the Kapamilya stars were able to express their gratitude to the people who played significant roles in their lives and in the success of their careers. The others, meanwhile, personally thanked countless Pinoys whose stories of courage and determination have inspired them and other people.

It also proves that a heart full of love is a heart full of love, and how we, Filipinos, never forget the genuine and unconditional acts of love shown to us. Thus, as our way of conveying our gratefulness and paying it forward, we never cease to give this love back in our own simple or grand ways.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2016: “Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko”

A reminder that nothing is impossible in life as long as we remain as one in family, in love and in faith, the “Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko” station ID features the stories of inspiring individuals, communities, and groups who continue to go on in life and help others despite the adversities they experience.

The theme song, which was performed by “The Voice Philippines” coaches Bamboo, Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, and Sharon Cuneta, along with their former kiddie proteges, Joshua Oliveros, Lyca Gairanod, Elha Nympha, and Antonetthe Tismo, speaks of how our faith in God and unconditional love for family have made us remain strong and hopeful in spite of all the trials we encounter.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2017: “Just Love Ngayong Christmas"

With love being the strong force that connects families and people across the world, the “Just Love Ngayong Christmas” anthem shows how we, Filipinos, “solve conflicts with compassion, respect our differences, heal pain with kindness, comfort each other during difficult times, and possess a strong grip on our faith.”

The station ID presents real people sharing what they have with strangers, helping one another in times of distress, and showing hope and resilience through videos or photos that went viral online and touched the hearts of many people.

Stars and artists from ABS-CBN’s News and Entertainment programs and subsidiaries can also be seen writing notes to cheer up and console the people in the war-torn Marawi City, as well as doing their respective acts of charity.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2018: “Family is Love"

In times of joy or despair, triumphs or trials, we all go back to our family, from whom we feel love, comfort, acceptance, joy, and hope. The “Family Is Love” music video features the inspiring stories of the Garcia Brothers, the Noblezada Family, the Talim Island Family, the survivors of Typhoon Ompong, and the Didal Family—five families who remind us that the true meaning of family is not always measured by blood but by the genuine love and strong connection that we share with each other.

Together with almost 400 artists, Kapamilyas are definitely touched as we sing words of love and inspiration in this season of love as one family.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2019: “Family is Forever”

While forever may have become far-fetched for many, but not for ABS-CBN, which perceives it as a continuing journey filled with love and meaning if spent with the most beloved people of our lives—our Kapamilyas. Thus, as the network marked its 65th anniversary in 2019, the chosen theme was “Family is Forever.”

In what appears to be a grand retrospect to famed Kapamilya Christmas station IDs through the years as ABS-CBN marked its 65th anniversary in 2019, “Family is Forever” pays a special homage to “Bro, Ikaw Ang Star ng Pasko,” “Thank You for the Love,” “Just Love Ngayong Pasko” and “Family is Love.”

This anthem is a medley of the these songs, with “The Voice Kids Philippines Season 4” finalists and coaches Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Lea Salonga singing the “Family is Forever” hymn, while the rest were recordings of real Kapamilyas from different sectors singing live.

“Family is Forever” went on to show the moving “reunions” inside the ABS-CBN compound of Kapamilya stars with the the inspiring people and groups they got to meet in the past years, as they look back on snaps of their previous Christmas station ID moments that have become part of “65 Years of Kuwentong Kapamilya.”

ABS-CBN Christmas ID 2020: “Ikaw Ang Liwanag at Ligaya”

The world may have seemed to stop in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but not the love, compassion, hope, joy, and faith that we possess, which indeed helped us get through one of the darkest periods in our lives. At the same time, it was also the same year when ABS-CBN had to confront the most hard-hitting challenge it has ever faced in recent history, yet that didn’t hinder the company from carrying on with its perpetual sworn duty of being in the service of the Filipinos.

Drawing inspiration from the resilience, determination, kindness, and faith that were radiated by our ordinary Kapamilyas during those trying times, “Ikaw Ang Liwanag at Ligaya” reminds us that despite the darkness that looms in our lives, there’s certainly a light inside each one of us that never goes off because we have God as the inexhaustible source. And because of the goodness that He constantly instills in us regardless of the situation, this also “inspires us to pass on His light to others until our collective light wins and brings us real joy.”

This features our Kapamilyas whose inspiring stories and moving kindness amid the pandemic brought light and sparked hope not only to the people whose lives they were able to touch, but to the onlookers as well, making us believe that it’s still possible for us to have a “Maligayang Pasko.”

ABS-CBN Christmas ID 2021: “Andito Tayo Para Sa Isa’t Isa”

It may have already been more than a year since the pandemic was declared, yet we still saw ourselves fearing for our and our loved ones’ lives in 2021, as the distressing effects of the deadly virus hit closer to home. The protocols may have already quite eased up, but the natural calamities that devastated our country made it extra difficult for us to move forward and overcome the difficulties that we were already facing then.

As some of us had already lost our hope and enthusiasm in life, there were still glimmers and blessings that came upon us in various, unexpected ways—sometimes in the form of people who had helped us regain our strength, optimism, and faith. At the same time, we were also able to provide support and joy to other people in our own little ways, without us even knowing it. Thus, the title “Andito Tayo Para Sa Isa’t Isa.”

The 2021 station ID is a tribute to the hero in everyone of us, as it features stories that prove that God is our inextinguishable light and that we are His instruments in spreading love, hope, and joy in times of trouble and challenges. Thus, making us each other’s answered prayers, sources of strength, and wonderful miracles.

ABS-CBN Christmas ID 2022: “Tayo Ang Ligaya ng Isa’t Isa”

We may already be slowly easing into the normalcy of our lives in 2022 as the pandemic started to gradually dissipate, yet we went on to face different challenges, anxieties, and setbacks that truly put our faith to the test. Thankfully, we have God, family, friends, and other loved ones to inspire and/or accompany us as we keep going on in life.

The bridge of “Tayo Ang Ligaya Ng Isa’t Isa” is inspired by gospel music, in which our faith, praises, and gratitude to God are expressed for everything that He has done in our lives. After all, these are the main reasons for the season, right? Besides, this is also an homage to the people who have been our greatest blessings, guiding lights, answered prayers, and sources of joy and motivation—none other than each other.

The music video features the inspiring stories of emergency responders from Bulacan and teachers from Kapayapaan Integrated School, as well as the heartwarming encounters of Kapamilya celebrities with the hardworking media production staff and crew, bayan patrollers, garbage collectors and street sweepers, and healthcare workers.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2023: “Pasko Ang Pinakamagandang Kuwento”

As many of us tend to focus on or trouble our heads on how to make every Christmas celebration festive and remarkable, we’re likely to forget that the real reason for the season is the birth of Jesus Christ many centuries ago. Thus, through the 2023 Christmas ID, ABS-CBN reintroduced to us the greatest story ever told through the soul-stirring lyrics and melody of “Pasko Ang Pinakamagandang Kuwento”.

With the music video commencing with a creative depiction of the timeless and beautiful story of the first-ever Christmas, not to mention the lines, “Sa Inyo ay totoo ang pinakamagandang kuwento/Sa madilim na gabi isinilang Siya sa mundo/Sa Inyo ay totoo ang Pasko ang pinakamagandang kuwento,” being repeated over and over again, we were reminded of the gift of salvation, hope, light, and love that Jesus had brought the world through his birth.

This Christmas ID inspires us to find joy in the midst of uncertainties and cling to Jesus’ light that shines in the darkness. According to ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management Division head and the anthem composer Robert Labayen, it provides a deeper meaning of “pasasalamat” and “puso,” as well as “pays homage to ABS-CBN’s passionate pursuit of providing significant stories to Filipino people despite many setbacks.”

It’s considered historic, as it featured GMA 7, TV5, and A2Z, the TV stations wherein some of the shows of ABS-CBN were broadcast following the shutdown in 2020. Partner media companies VIU, Prime Video, and PIE Channel were also seen in the music video through the appearances of the Kapamilya stars whose shows were streamed or shown in those platforms.

ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2024: “Our Stories Shine This Christmas”

Throughout the decades of watching world-class Kapamilya shows, we’re surely accustomed to watching teleseryes that run for 30 minutes in each episode. And in 2024, the ABS-CBN Christmas ID was almost the same length, as it listed a 25-minute-and-23-second runtime—the media company’s longest to date.

“Our Stories Shine This Christmas” highlights the joy and hope that can be found in sharing individual stories, which can uplift and empower others, and encourages everyone to keep on loving, hoping, and rising up again amidst challenges, heartbreaks, and setbacks in life.

The music video puts a spotlight on the personal triumphs and stories of selflessness and resilience of ordinary people and everyday heroes who serve as bearers of light and hope in their loved ones, organizations, and communities. Among the inspiring stories featured were those of JV Ambrosio and other family breadwinners, single mom Elaine and cancer-stricken daughter Zoe, alopecia warrior April Doria, typhoon survivors, Hernando “Mang Nanie” Guanlao and his community library, Tatay Carlos Orit and his rescue dogs, and the Philippine Navy’s sacrifice and heroism.

In an interview with Sheryl Ramos, Head of Creative Accounts for ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management (CCM) TV Entertainment Promo, she disclosed that they actually did not plan for the 2024 Christmas ID to be that long when they started working on it. However, since they were able to capture a lot of beautiful moments during the shoots, not to mention how stories, subjects, and stars were exquisitely presented, they had a hard time squeezing the clips they’d chosen into a short montage. Thus, they just took it as an opportunity to pour everything into this ID.

Are you as excited as us to see how ABS-CBN is going to usher in this year’s Yuletide celebration via the “Love, Joy, and Hope: Sabay Tayo Ngayong Pasko” Christmas ID? Catch the premiere today November 14 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube and Facebook.
