Throughout the one year-run of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” we’ve witnessed the struggles and battles that our main hero, Tanggol (Coco Martin), had to face and go through. And in the early parts of the narrative, it can be recalled that among the people who weren’t nice to him and his family was Roda (Joel Lamangan), their loquacious, arrogant, tyrannical, and crabby neighbor in Quiapo.

And after being each other’s nemeses for quite some time, the two have finally chosen to bury the hatchet and make amends, as seen in the recent episodes of the well-loved primetime series. Let us look back on their journey towards reconciliation in this edition of Kapamilya Update.

Those who got to watch Batang Quiapo ever since Day 1 could probably recall that Tanggol’s hatred to Roda ignited when the latter sent the former’s beloved grandmother, Tindeng (Charo Santos) to jail after their heated confrontation. Being the protective apo that he is, Tanggol furiously stormed at Roda’s house together with his friends and threatened to kill him.

Subsequently, Tanggol was able to successfully break into Roda’s house while he was sleeping and stole some of his gold jewelries and money. Apart from earning money out of those, Tanggol and his friends agreed that it would be a great way of exacting revenge against Roda for what he had done to Tindeng.

Unfortunately, Tanggol received a severe retaliation from Roda as the latter accused him of trespassing at his house and attempting to rob and kill him, which brought Tanggol and his friends to jail. Roda further pinned Tanggol by giving false testimony before the judge during the court trial of their cases.

However, in spite of what Roda did to him in the past, which involved mudslinging and baseless accusations, Tanggol still chose to look past Roda’s transgressions and even handed him a few sums of money in one of their chance meetings after Tanggol got emancipated from prison. Tanggol did the same in one of his recent visits to Quiapo, as he gave Roda a bag of grocery and cash, a.k.a. “ayuda.”

And it can be deduced that Tanggol and Roda have already completely reconciled after the former gave the latter financial aid anew for his hospital bills and medicines. Touched by the unexpected gesture, Roda expressed resentment for all the nasty things that he had done to the kindhearted firstborn of his “frenny,” Marites (Cherry Pie Picache), as well as humbly asked for his forgiveness, which Tanggol conferred by telling him to just forget and leave everything in the past.

Indeed, Tanggol and Roda’s reconciliation journey is a reminder for us to always show kindness because we’ll never know what’s going to happen in the future and who are going to be there for us.
