Who would have thought that the person who brought you trauma that would haunt you for the rest of your life and caused you to have troubles and disputes within your family, would end up being your hero? And such is the controversial issue of Marites (Cherry Pie Picache), who shockingly found solace in the companionship of her perpetrator, Ramon (Christopher de Leon), in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.”
While their closeness continues to draw mixed reactions among avid viewers, we still couldn’t help but be moved every time we see them onscreen together. Let’s revisit some of their secret rendezvous in this episode of Kapamilya Update!
Those who have been watching the top-rating primetime series since Day 1 could certainly recall that their lives began to intertwine when Ramon broke in to the house of the Dimaguibas and sexually assaulted Marites while she was all by herself. Before he left, Ramon told her that he would be back to claim his child someday, who would inherit the wealth of their affluent family. That marred the relationship of Marites with her husband Rigor (John Estrada), with the latter resenting the former for letting that happen, especially when she gave birth to her firstborn, Hesus Nazareno, a.k.a. Tanggol (Coco Martin).
As Marites raised their child and went on to have two more sons with Rigor, Ramon got incarcerated for the crimes he committed and only emancipated by escaping from prison. In order to make amends, he has since made it his goal to track down his "baby mama" and their child, only to be spoiled by his cunning adoptive sister, Olga (Irma Adlawan), who gave him and their father, Don Julio (Tommy Abuel), false information and even introduced David (McCoy de Leon) as his long-lost son.
But in spite of everything that happened, the universe still had its incredible way of intertwining the paths of Ramon and Marites again, which happened amidst the intense shootout between his group and the Red Phoenix syndicate in Quiapo. Decades may have already passed since the first and last time that they saw each other, yet they were still able to recognize one another.
Even though he did her wrong, Marites couldn’t help but be concerned about Ramon as she even rushed him to the nearest clinic when he sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Their initial meeting after so many years ended in high emotions as Marites lambasted him for making her life miserable because of what he did. She must have hit Ramon hard with what she said and felt terribly bad about it, so he resolved to make amends by saving her, whether or not she asked for it. Knight in shining armor lang, Ramon?
He began with paying for the bills of Marites when she got hospitalized and bringing her flowers and food after she was fatally stabbed by Olga. And he didn’t stop there; he went on to offer her and her family security, knowing that her life was in danger.
Since Marites strongly declined any help that he offered to her, Ramon thought of hiring someone to pretend as a customer and buy all her goods as his way of helping her financially. Just when Marites assumed that she hit the jackpot that day, she got instantly dismayed upon finding out that it was Ramon who was her real customer.
She tried to shoo him away but he was so persistent. Little did Marites notice that she already ranted all her woes to Ramon as if they were already friends—from the way Rigor disrespected her to how she’s been yearning to experience at least a little comfort.
Although she is the one who keeps on avoiding him and driving him away, Marites still called Ramon when Lena (Mercedes Cabral), the mistress of Rigor, got into an accident after the latter attacked her. She didn’t expect Ramon to immediately come to her rescue, so she couldn’t help but sob as they embraced in the middle of the road. He then invited her to go somewhere that evening to help her feel better.
