KZ Tandingan documented the making of “Kaya,” her first song since becoming an independent artist.
"I’m finally an independent artist. Of course, with the support of my former home, Star Music, and my management, Cornerstone," she shared in an Instagram reel.
The singer expressed her excitement over the new song and the opportunity to work with her collaborators.
"This is the first day of the recording, written by MC Einstein," she shared. "You know, I’m very happy. I’m just very excited. Right now, we’re listening to the rough mix. Actually, ginagawa ’yung rough mix ng aking producer ngayon, si Thyro. I’ve been wanting to work with him for a really long time, so sobrang masaya ako na finally nagkatagpo lahat. The stars have finally aligned."
KZ also revealed that “Kaya” will showcase a different side of her artistry.
"Sa 15 years ko dito sa industriyang ito, I never thought na parang cliché na sabihin ng mga artists ’yung, 'This is something very new, something I’ve never done before.' But this is actually something na hindi ko pa nagagawa before," she said.
She further explained: "The vibe is very KZ, but the composition of the song, ’yung tunog, ’yung delivery, it’s something very different. Parang it’s KZ from a different perspective."
The singer also shared the encouragement she received from her husband and fellow artist, TJ Monterde, who is likewise pursuing his career independently.

"I just want to express and just make music that I can call my own. Kasi siyempre with the encouragement of TJ, na independent artist din, sabi niya, 'You can just do whatever you want. You owe it to yourself after more than 10 years in the industry. Parang puwede kang maglaro,'" she said.
She added: "So ’yun, I’m very excited kasi I’m just here to express and sing, which is what I wanna do for the rest of my life."
