OPM band The Dawn will be collaborating with Ballet Manila for a special edition of Ballet & Ballads set to happen this February 20 and 21 at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City. This special collaboration marks two special occasions for the band and Ballet Manila’s Artistic Director, Lisa Macuja Elizalde.
The collaboration is being presented as part of the Ballet & Ballads series and produced by Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC).
For the OPM band, they will be celebrating their 40th anniversary this year while this is the 40th year since Lisa returned to the Philippines coming from her flourishing career at the Kirov Ballet (now Mariinsky Ballet).
The highly-anticipated collaboration between two icons of their generation will showcase some of The Dawn’s most popular and iconic songs that are reimagined through dance–– highlighting the continuous effort of Ballet Manila to make ballet relevant and accessible to the public.
Entrance to the highly-anticipated collaboration shows is free of charge but tickets are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Forty years ago, I came home with a mission to make ballet part of Filipino life. To see that vision continue through Ballet Manila and the PRIMA performance season is deeply meaningful not just for me but for everyone in the company. It proves that ballet can endure, adapt, and belong to everyone,” Lisa shared.
Apart from the collaboration with The Dawn, Ballet Manila will be offering a curated program for the rest of the year that Filipinos could enjoy. These were all chosen by Lisa herself as part of the PRIMA Performance Season of Ballet Manila.
Sleeping Beauty will be staged on March 14 and 15, accompanied by the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Alexander Vikulov. On June 20 and 21, the season will continue with Paquita, which showcases the company’s Vaganova heritage and classical precision.
To wrap the highly-anticipated PRIMA Performance Season, on August 22 and 23, La Bayadère will be staged, featuring the return of guest artists Renata Shakirova and Kimin Kim of the Mariinsky Ballet.
All of these performances will be staged at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City. More details about their upcoming shows and ticketing procedures can be found on their official social media pages.
