Christophe Sommereux, the son of celebrity couple Christopher Roxas and Gladys Reyes, embarked on his new journey in the entertainment industry, but not in the same field as his parents.

The second-generation artist now treads a musical path, being the latest addition to the pool of talented singers and songwriters under ABS-CBN's record label StarPop.

Christophe, whose interest in music sprouted when he was 15, revealed why he pursued a career in music rather than following in the footsteps of his parents, who are both seasoned actors.

“Because music has always spoken to me in a way that acting never did,” he said in an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN.

According to Christophe, he has a tremendous respect for actors and their art, but music has impacted him in a different way.

“For me kasi, ever since before, music was something that spoke to me in a sense that I don’t have to be performing it,” he said. “I don’t have to be doing much. And yet, I could just hear the words coming out of someone’s mouth over some instruments, and suddenly, iba na ‘yung na-fe-feel ko. Suddenly, I experience new emotions. Suddenly, I’m on a different trajectory when it comes to my self-discovery.”

The up-and-coming artist said it was his dad, Christopher, who introduced him to the world of music.

For him, music is fascinating due to its complexities which enable him to explore and be more creative.

“Music is so beautiful to me kasi napaka-complex niya,” he said. “You can’t really pinpoint, or you can’t really associate an emotion to a certain type of genre, very mixed match siya kasi doon ka maglalaro eh. You’re gonna find out what works, tapos itutuloy mo ‘yun hanggang mag-blossom siya into something bigger.”

In the same interview, Christophe recalled how he struggled to navigate his own musical path.

“‘Yung mga songs na sinusulat ko dati, very hilaw. It [didn’t] sound like a song. It [didn’t] sound like a proper song,” he said.

But now, he has finally found his own rhythm through the help of his own experiences.

“I think as I got older, over the years, I’ve also been able to experience much more mature feelings. And I think that also reflected sa musika ko. From hilaw to luto, I think I found my footing in the music industry.

Christophe launched the music video of his song “Sine” last Tuesday, June 17, to mark the beginning of his journey in the limelight.
