Filipino-Canadian online personality Mikey Bustos has announced a new music project on his Instagram account, revealing that it is a two-year-long passion project.
In a video post, Canadian Idol alum Mikey Bustos wrote: "Finally get to tell my secret battle story. Can't wait to share this two-year-long passion project with you all starting April 22. #newmusic"
The video contained a touching and personal message from Mikey, detailing his coming-out journey from years ago.
He reflected on his reality singing show stint and how the rise of the internet helped boost his fame.
“My life's been crazy. A reality show forged me into the spotlight, and this new thing at the time called the internet set me off on a path with the promise of my dreams, far away in a foreign paradise,” he wrote.
Mikey admitted that, in exchange for that popularity, there came a price, which he mentioned eventually became unfair in the long run.
“But despite the wins and countless viral videos, inside I had a secret that I was told by certain agents was best to keep hidden. It was a fair trade, I guess, until one day I found love and decided the price wasn't fair anymore. What good is the promise of your dreams in exchange for freedom to be yourself?” Mikey expressed.
He then shared how he and his longtime partner, RJ Garcia, took a risk and revealed their truth by coming out as a couple.
“So one day at the risk of losing everything, I and the one who became my parachute in life took the biggest leap of faith together and jumped so we could live our truth. And now that I'm on the other side of what has been the greatest adventure I've ever known,” the YouTube star said.
At the end of the video, Mikey mentioned that he has a lot to say, teasing the upcoming song as the audio played, accompanied by some lyrics:
"Kiss my feet, dancing on the heat.

Yeah, yeah, yeah Dancing on the heat
I don't think we're going home without a fight."
This is not Mikey’s first foray into music. Over a decade ago, he began releasing songs, including "Everytime My Heart Beats."
Aside from music, he is also active on his YouTube channels, with one of them, AntsCanada, reaching 6 million subscribers in 2024.
