MANILA -- Singer Zia Quizon is back in the music scene as she launched her new single "Reto Na Naman" on Thursday afternoon, November 13, at ABS-CBN's Dolphy Theater.
Quizon's song is now available on music streaming platforms, while its lyric video has been uploaded on Star Music's YouTube channel.
The track was composed by Jungee Marcelo, who also composed her hits "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?" and "Ako Na Lang." It was produced by Marcelo with Jazz Nicolas and Jonathan Manalo.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Quizon shared what was so special about "Reto Na Naman."
"'Yung 'reto' hindi ba 'yung parang pinag-pair, pinag-match. Pero for me 'yung perfect talaga music-wise is with Sir Jungee. So parang to me, kami 'yung perfect pair, 'yung parang ideal na match for me," Quizon said.
"It's always like a pleasure to work with him cause that's what people respond to the most. Hindi naman ako hang up na kailangan ako 'yung nagsulat ng hits ko or something like that. I'm perfectly comfortable with interpreting. Daming mahuhusay na songwriter in the Philippines, parang you don't need me, one more na (songwriter). I'm glad that Star Music is giving the opportunity to explore 'yung mga originals but I think it's also parang worthwhile aspect itong craft ko as a singer na mag-interpret kasi iba din 'yung sense of humor niya. Parang gets namin 'yung sense of humor. So may magic talaga doon. So it's just exciting to get to work with Sir Jonathan Manalo about it this time around to see kung ano ang kalabasan," Quizon added.
Before performing her new single to members of entertainment media, Quizon officially returned as a Kapamilya as she signed a contract with Star Music.
Asked what made her decide to return to music industry, Quizon said: "It's a matter of time lang din. Kasi ako 'yung tipo na wala akong Plan B. pParang it would have been smart kung mayroon akong Plan B. Pero ito, this is what I do, so nag-iibang anyo lang ako kind of. I personally feel like it's just a matter of time. Walang concrete reason, just naghihintay lang ako for the right opportunity, the right people to work with and thankfully nangyari din siya in time," Quizon said.
Apart from Star Music and Conerstone executives, also present during the contract signing was her mother Zsa Zsa Padilla. Quizon's husband Aleksa Rahul was also present to show his support.
According to Quizon, contrary to misconception that she has moved abroad after marrying her husband, who's a Serbian national, she's actually staying in the Philippines. The singer said she is just grateful that her husband decided to stay with her.
"This is my home. Dito ako. Siya 'yung thankfully lumipat dito for me. So parang grateful lang din naman ako. Kasi hindi ko rin din naman alam kung paano ako magwo-work ang job ko roon na OPM singer ako roon, hindi ba? Parang hindi naman ako taga-roon. So just really grateful that he took the leap of fate... to be here with me," Quizon explained.
Quizon is the youngest daughter of Padilla with the late King of Comedy Dolphy.
When asked if she got sentimental marking her comeback at the Dolphy Theater, Quizon said: "A little bit. Pero 'yun nga like I said before I think my dad, he always taught me na you can't take it with you, 'yung mga physical stuff na ganito. So I think there's something bittersweet about it but at the same time alam niya 'yung ganoon. What he gave to us people, as a culture, as an industry, parang 'yun naman 'yung importante, hopefully 'yun ang magla-last. ... Okay lang siya, I'm sure wherever he is he is very happy of legacy niya. And how hopefully me and my family and his kids and those who love him parang keep him remembered," the singer said.
Quizon followed in the footsteps of her parents in September 2011, when she released her debut album and staged her first concert. She also became part of the musical variety show "ASAP Rocks."
In recent years, she decidedly become less visible on mainstream television, as she opted to form the jazz band Extrapolation.
Prior to signing a network contract, Quizon was featured in "Never Be Alone," a single by her mom. The track is part of the Divine Diva's album "Pag Tinadhana" released early this year.
