MANILA -- The next generation of the Velasquez family is ready to make their mark in the local music scene.
Sisters Ezri, Julia, and Tasha Mitra have officially launched their group name, DNA — a nod to their shared musical bond and deep family roots in show business.
During their official launch Monday, the talented nieces of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez couldn’t hide their excitement about stepping into the spotlight together.
“The launch has been a little overwhelming but also so exciting,” said Julia. “We’ve been really so excited to share our music and what we really have to offer.”

ABS-CBN NewsThe trio teased that fans can expect a mix of genres from their upcoming releases, from heartfelt melodies to upbeat, danceable tracks. Their debut single is in the works, and according to the sisters, they take pride in writing their own music.
Asked how they hope to stand out in the ever-growing P-pop scene, Julia pointed to what makes the group special: “The fact that we’re sisters we have a different dynamic. And also, we make our own songs. Our relationship really makes us different.”
Ezri added that fans can look forward to music with depth and rhythm. “You can expect some rap, some very danceable music,” she said with a smile.
Their fanbase, which has already begun forming online, has also chosen a name that perfectly complements the group Helix, a nod to DNA’s iconic double-helix structure.
Being the nieces of Velasquez, one of OPM’s most iconic voices, the sisters admitted that the shadow of expectation can be daunting.
“I mean the pressure she is amazing and we only wish that we could live up to the standard,” Tasha said. “But our sound is also very different from hers. We just hope that people get to enjoy our music.”
They also shared their aunt's most valuable advice. “To be patient, fame and popularity don’t come in an instant,” Tasha said. “We really have to love what we do and make music with intention.”
Before pursuing their musical careers, the Mitra sisters focused on finishing their education.
“We studied first,” Julia explained. “I just graduated college in June. Our mom didn’t want us to enter showbiz early on. So this really feels like a blessing.”
Ezri echoed the sentiment, saying she once thought her dream was out of reach. “I came to a point where I gave up on my dream. I didn’t know I had a chance anymore until the opportunity came. This is our last shot at pursuing our childhood dreams.”
When asked how prepared they are for the challenges of the entertainment world, Tasha responded with honesty. “I’d like to think we are decently prepared. We grew up watching our parents in the industry. But I guess we’ll really learn along the way,” she said.
Echoing her sister’s thoughts, Ezri added, “You’ll never be ready for something until you’re in it. We’ll just keep adapting.”
DNA is set to release their debut single on October 9.
