Kapamilya actor Kyle Echarri is embracing the variety of roles coming his way. He shared how stepping into the action genre has opened his eyes to new possibilities in his craft.
In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Kyle said he has always dreamed of doing action projects that involve stunts and intense fight scenes.
“Super! I think any kid would want to be a race car driver or action star, ‘di ba? I wouldn’t say na gusto ko lang maging action star pero I am so open to so many different roles. I've been blessed with such diverse characters this year, and I guess The Ride was a big key to opening my eyes in the world of acting and what I have potential to do,” Kyle happily said.
Kyle is set to star in the upcoming series Roja with Donny Pangilinan, another project that carries an action-packed theme.
“For example, we have Roja with Donny, which is also an action series, so I’m happy to be doing so many different genres. I’m so happy with the trust that these production companies have been giving me,” he added.
As per Kyle, he and the cast of his new action series are doing special trainings for their much-anticipated scenes.
"We’ve gone through several trainings separately. We’ve gone through different trainings with, of course, si Coach Erwin Tagle, super, super happy with the whole process, and I’ve just been enjoying putting my dedication to something new, something na comeback naman for a change kasi you know, dun sa Pamilya Sagrado, magpagka-action pero si Moises hindi marunong talagang lumaban so ngayon at least marunong na akong lumaban so let’s see how this goes," he shared.
At the same time, Kyle is promoting his new action-drama film The Ride, where he stars alongside Piolo Pascual. He plays the role of Leo, a troubled son who becomes entangled in his father’s dangerous world.
Kyle shared that working on the project allowed him to reflect on his deeper purpose as an actor, realizing that the craft goes beyond simply admiring celebrities he once looked up to as a child.
He also expressed his gratitude to Piolo, whom he now considers both a mentor and a brother, for guiding him throughout the process as he supported him during personal struggles and filming.
“To be able to differentiate what I am going through and not bringing it to set but also being able to use that for my character din as a drive.” Kyle stated.
Kyle shared that working alongside the seasoned actor was an invaluable experience, saying he learned a lot simply by observing Piolo on set. He noted that Piolo demonstrated many different tools and techniques without directly teaching him, which left Kyle deeply appreciative of the mentorship he received.
Now that he has gained more experience in action projects, Kyle admitted that he dreams of working with Coco Martin, the lead star and director of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
“Syempre sino pa ba hindi gustong makatrabaho si Kuya Coco. Ilang beses ko na sinabi sa kanya na ‘Kuya Cocs, pasok mo naman ako sa Batang Quiapo!’ Pero sinasabi niya sa tamang timing lang syempre ‘di rin kaya ng schedule sa ngayon pero one day i’d love to work with Kuya Coco,” Kyle expressed.
The actor shared that he already got a glimpse of Coco’s artistry when he directed Pamilya Sagrado.
“I got to work with him as a director naman sa Pamilya Sagrado, sobrang gusto ko ‘yung process niya at passion niya at ‘yon iyong nakakahawa sa kanya so i would love to work with him,” he continued.
