MANILA -- Actor Richard Gutierrez is set to make his first appearance in the long-running horror franchise with the 17th installment, "Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins," and said he’s thrilled to join the series’ comeback.
In a video posted on social media by Regal Films and Star Magic, Gutierrez shared his excitement about taking part in the iconic franchise.
"First it's so exciting to be part of Shake, Rattle & Roll. I've done a lot of films for Regal since I was a kid pero ito 'yung first na 'Shake, Rattle & Roll' ko and I'm super excited about it. And, it's the comeback of 'Shake, Rattle & Roll' and the script, the character, everything, the storyline is just good and exciting for me. And from the moment na nabasa ko 'yung script sabi ko 'game, let's do it," he said.
Asked what's exciting about his role in the upcoming film, Gutierrez said: "I think more than anything 'yung special sa character is the bond that he has with his family and the people that he's surrounded with. And, the importance of survival for himself and survival for his family and he will do everything for his family. 'Yon 'yung nakikita ko sa role."
Gutierrez also shared what he sees as the most challenging aspect of portraying his role in the film.
"When you do a role it's always challenging in different aspects --it could be emotionally, physically, mentally. So there's always gonna be challenges when you're gonna do a role for a particular film. But I think the challenges for this one excites me. It's not only going to be challenging physically and emotionally but I think the way that we're going to tell the story as a team, I think nandoon 'yung challenge for us and nandoon 'yung exciting part," he said.
For the movie, Gutierrez said he and his co-stars will be undergoing physical training.
"We are going to do a lot of preps for this film. Actually I've been preparing na for this film but I think as a unit we will have a few days of preparation just to get everybody on board, same page. So exciting din 'yon kasi first time ko makakasama ang ibang cast members and we are going to do some training, physical training for this film, so exciting din 'yon," he shared.
Part of his preparation for the film is to study the script and his character.
"Just go to the script again and again and again and look at the character in different perspectives and different possibilities and collaborate with my directors also about the character and try to deepen the character," he said.
Directed by Ian Loreños, "Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins," is set to hit cinemas this December as an official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.
"Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins" also stars Ivana Alawi, Francine Diaz, Kaila Estrada, Fyang Smith, Loisa Andalio, Manilyn Reynes, Janice de Belen, Carla Abellana, Ysabel Ortega, Ashley Ortega, Elijah Alejo, Ryan Bang, JM Ibarra, Dustin Yu and Seth Fedelin. Shugo Praico and Joey de Guzman are the two other directors of the horror trilogy.
Gutierrez recently starred in the hit primetime series "Incognito" with Daniel Padilla, Ian Veneracion, Maris Racal, Kaila Estrada, Baron Geisler and Anthony Jennings. The series ended last July.
