Actress-singer Karylle is set to take on a role in the upcoming historical film Quezon, where she will portray Doña Aurora Quezon, the wife of former Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon.

In the recent episode of her K's Drama podcast, Karylle expressed her excitement about the project, sharing that it came at a time when she had been reflecting on her career and wondering why she hadn’t been cast in period films despite her extensive experience in stage productions.

"It came at a time when I was wondering, how come I never get cast in movies or in films that are period films because I've done Larawan: The Musical on stage and I also did [Isang Gabing] Sarswela," she said.

Karylle reflected on how the opportunity arrived just as she was contemplating her career direction, seeing it as a sign to actively pursue the projects and roles she aspires to be part of.

"So just as I thought that, the project, the call came in and I was like wow I guess I should be asking these questions and really moving towards the places or spaces I wanted to be in," she stated.

On February 18, Karylle took to social media to express her gratitude to be part of Quezon.

"What an honor to be playing First Lady Aurora Quezon in @tbastudiosph's Quezon. Thank you for this amazing opportunity TBA Studios. I'm so excited to be working with all of you," she wrote on her Instagram page.

Karylle remarked that she is beyond ecstatic to work with the cast and crew of the film. "I don’t know if 'excited' is a good enough word to express how wonderful I’m feeling right now. Thank you @jtarog Jerrold (the movie's director) for giving me lots of moments to prep with you and the cast. Looking forward to our next sessions before we start filming and am preparing well to do my job well," she said.

The Kapamilya star also shared how she prepared for the role, revealing that she did her initial research at a library in Singapore.

Karylle relayed that she also coincidentally found photos of Doña Aurora at the White Cross Children's Home where she happens to be a volunteer.

"Can you imagine my surprise as I found photos of Doña Aurora in my fave photo spot in White Cross Children's Home where she served as an honorary president. I have been a volunteer as someone from the community since my bestie @mzhappy258's debut in the home when we were 18. Another photo coincidentally is where we shot spiels in my White Cross podcast episode for K's Drama," she said.

Karylle added: "I also found my old Red Cross pin gifted to me many years ago after doing some volunteer work. It seemed to be meant for the first reading as Doña Aurora also served for Red Cross."
