Before he became famous because of his work in films like Sana Maulit Muli (1995), May Minamahal (1993), Kailangan Kita (2002), to name a few, Aga Muhlach started out in showbiz as a child actor at the age of seven. He then cemented his status as the Philippines’ original heartthrob when he starred in the 1984 iconic coming-of-age barkada film Bagets along with Herbert Bautista, Raymond Lauchengco, JC Bonnin, and William Martinez. This year, his son Andres follows in his footsteps as he takes on his dad’s role as Adie in the upcoming Bagets the Musical next month.

In a recent Instagram post, the former matinee idol, looked back at his blockbuster breakout role and poked fun at some of his previous fashion choices. Aga wrote, “So Eto na nga! Dami nag papadala sakin nito! 😂 I was 14 years old when I did this movie. The day I wore this outfit boom! Feeling ko ako na pinaka magaling na fashionista! Hahaha then were the days! Good times! And since there will be a release next year of BAGETS THE MUSICAL eh sabi ko bakit di natin ipost na to! Haha dare sa cast …. Suot niyo nga Ito 😂😂😜 @aagupy kasama ka dun! 😂 Merry Christmas everyone!!! 😘 enjoy my outfit! Hahahaha 😅😅😅.”

Known for not just being a hit at the box office, the 1984 film Bagets also set a new fashion trend in the country with the cast members’ colorful and often layered wardrobe.

In an interview with PUSH ABS-CBN last November, Aga’s son Andres talks about proudly getting the opportunity to step into the role his father first made popular more than four decades ago.

“Para sa akin naman kasi, definitely there is pressure to live up and to produce the best performance I can like the original Bagets did in 1984. But above all that really, I see it more as an honor talaga to get the chance to play Adie. Kahit years ago when I was a boy watching Bagets for the first time with my dad and my family, never namin na-imagine na magiging Adie din ako. So parang it’s a full circle moment for me and it’s really an honor and I’m really just as proud to get the chance to say that I’m playing my father’s role at last.

"I think what I love most about Adie in the film and what I’d like to portray as well in actual live performance is the charisma and the charm that Adie brings. Even when you see the original film, when you see Aga Muhlach on the screen, kahit na tumitingin lang siya sa cam, talagang ang lakas ng charisma, ang lakas ng charm. So hoping ako sana na I get to do that as well on the live performance,” he shared.
