HandoutOPM singer Geneva Cruz is finally bringing her "Gen Evolution" concert to the Music Museum on Saturday, September 13, at 8 p.m., promising a high-energy night where Gen X, millennials, Gen Z and longtime OPM fans can sing, dance and reminisce together.
With her signature hits and fresh takes on ’80s and ’90s pop anthems — plus star-studded guest performances — Cruz sets out to prove that music knows no generation gap.
“It’s finally pushing through!” Cruz exclaims. “I feel it’s high time to reacquaint the younger generation with my music and my brand of high-octane concert performance.”
The much-awaited concert party celebrates her 35th anniversary in showbiz, which started when she burst into the limelight with the group Smokey Mountain, and eventually evolved into an electrifying concert livewire whose dynamic stage presence – not to mention her sensuous allure – gives a nod to pop superstars such as Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Miley Cyrus.
The concert will serve as a testament and a celebration of what she has become as a woman.
Cruz admits that she also had a hard time; she faced challenges in life, but she didn’t give up. “When I was living in the US as a single mom with two kids, I struggled to understand what I wanted for myself. I kept singing and working a 9-to-5 job, but I felt like I wasn’t growing," she recalls.
“After six years there, I asked my son, Heaven, now 29 years old, if I could move back to the Philippines so I could pursue my dreams and make the most of my opportunities.”
Her son encouraged her to do it.
“I wanted to make the most of my career before I turn 45. I was once told that I would probably only be beautiful until I'm 50," she says.
“This motivated me to focus on improving myself, as true beauty should reflect both the outside and the inside. So, I made the move back to the Philippines. It’s been five years, and I can't be more grateful for my choices. Through the experience, I discovered the importance of balancing self-love and family. I also began to believe that age is just a number and that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.”
Even beyond her string of hits, including "I Like You," "Kailan, Paraiso," "Anak ng Pasig," "Can This Be Love," and many more, Cruz has managed to elevate her ‘A’ game by serving as a poster girl for women's empowerment and social relevance.
As a fitness buff, she continues to defy age with her drop-dead-gorgeous looks and voluptuous curves -- a product of rigorous workouts and a positive mindset.
“I got into fitness and discovered Geneva Wellness Institute, a beauty and wellness medical spa located at Vivere Hotel in Alabang, and it's been doing well.”
HandoutApart from her concert, she is prepping up for the stage musical, "Jeproks The Musical," which will open in November.
When asked who convinced her to do it, she said, “I felt it was time for me to create another musical, an original Pilipino musical at that. No one convinced me… the songs of Mike Hanopol and the spirit of the ‘70s did.”
"Gen Evolution" is the best place to put on the dancing shoes and flaunt one’s best moves amid a groove-inducing remix of chart-topping ‘90s hits. Get ready to sing and scream while reprising some of the memorable OPM love songs and anthemic hits.
A production of ALV Events International and ALV Talent Circuit, the show is directed by her fellow Smokey Mountain alum Jeffrey Hidalgo, with Nikko Rivera as musical director.
Will she have a reunion performance with her former fellow Smokey Mountain members and do adult versions of their hits?
“Surprise! People need to see for themselves, so they should come to the concert!” she teases.
