MANILA — The Singapore stop of Filipino pop-rock band The Juans’ “Tawid” album tour has sold out ahead of the band’s November 16 show at SMU Hall 1, after weeks of uncertainty over ticket sales.
The sold-out concert comes after lead vocalist Carl Guevarra posted a candid TikTok video on October 30 saying producers had warned of weak sales and the possibility of an empty venue — or even a canceled show.
In response, the band traveled to Singapore from October 31 to November 4 for a series of grassroots promotions, including surprise busking sessions and meet-ups with overseas Filipino workers. The trip, documented in their mini-series “SOS: Stories of Singapore,” became a turning point.
“When we went to Singapore for the early visit, hindi na naging tungkol sa pagbebenta ng tickets ‘yung nangyari,” Guevarra said. “We were overwhelmed by the whole experience of witnessing firsthand the stories of our kababayans… We’re lucky to have connected with Pinoys in Singapore at patuloy naming ibabahagi ang mga kwento ng bawat Juan through our music.”
Guevarra’s TikTok post later went viral, prompting a wave of support from fans — including members of SB19’s fanbase, A’TIN — who helped boost visibility for the show.
The concert sold out the same day the band released Episode 1 of “SOS: Stories of Singapore,” marking a high point in their tour and underscoring the strong bayanihan spirit among Filipinos abroad.
“Umuwi kami nang may ngiti sa mga puso namin knowing na pinagtibay kami lalo nung experience at pinaalala sa 'min bakit namin ‘to ginagawa in the first place,” lead guitarist Japs Mendoza said.
