MANILA -- Filipino pop-rock band The Juans is going to Singapore this weekend not to take a break but to reach out to the Filipino community to promote their upcoming show "Tawid" album tour on November 16.
In a reel posted on his Facebook page on Thursday, Carl Guevarra, frontman of The Juans, opened up about the slow turnout of ticket sales for their Singapore show.
Guevarra said they received a call from producers informing them that only 90 out of 1,000 tickets had been sold so far. If the situation doesn’t improve, he added, they might end up performing to an empty venue — or worse, the concert might not push through.
"As everyone will go on their vaction, everyone will go back to their family. This weekend mararamdaman namin 'yung pakiramdam ng OFW na lalayo para makipagsapalaran sa ibang bansa. Guys, may ikukuwento ako sa inyo, I will be very honest. Nag-iimpake ako sinisilip ko na 'yung mga equipment namin because tomorrow we are going to Singapore. It's not for vacation. As you all know nag-announced kami na mayroon kaming show sa Singapore this coming November 16. Now, we recently got a call from the producers telling us that our tickets aren't selling very well. During that call, ang sabi sa amin 90 tickets out of 1,000 pa lang 'yung nabibili. If nothing changes we might be performing in an empty venue or worse it might not happen at all," Guevarra said.
Because of the situation, The Juans decided to fly to Singapore to personally promote their show. The group will be in Singapore for five days.
"Pwede namang deadma lang kami, hindi ba? Pwede namang ipinalangin na lang namin pero if you know us, if you know The Juans, you know that we won't accept that news just sitting down. Nag-book kami ng tickets out of our own pockets and we are going to go there tomorrow to really figure out nasaan ba 'yung Filipino community natin sa Singapore. Sino ba ang dapat naming makausap, makasalamuha, makakuwentuhan? What does it take for us para mabigyan kami ng pagkakataon na i-share 'yung music namin and y'ung experience ng live show that we bring? To be honest, hindi ko alam kung magsa-succeed 'yung gagawin namin," Guevarra said.
Guevarra assured their producers that the band is determined to do everything they can to make the Singapore show a success.
"Kaya gusto ko itong i-share kasi gusto kong magpakatotoo sa inyo na kami, masaya kami, grateful kami. Alam namin that we've reached a level of success pero kagaya ng maraming Filipino we struggle sometimes. Gusto namin ipakita sa sarili namin, sa mga ka-team namin na hindi kami basta-basta susuko lang nang ganoon. Lahat nang pwede naming gawin para maging successful 'yung event na ipinagkatiwala sa amin, para hindi mapahiya 'yung mga producers na sumugal sa amin ay gagawin namin. Gusto ko lang i-share ito, i-document. I want to start from a place of authenticity. This is the situation," Guevarra said.
Composed of Guevarra, Chael Adriano, Japs Mendoza and RJ Cruz, The Juans, whose hits include “Hindi Tayo Pwede” and “Istorya,” marked their 10th year in the music scene with "Tawid," an album that opens a universe to every feeling.

They kicked off their anniversary events with "TAWID LIVE: The Album Showcase" held at Skydome last August 29.
