Jamie Bell is stepping into the world of Peaky Blinders as he takes on the role of Duke Shelby in the franchise’s upcoming television continuation set in the 1950s.
In a press release by Netflix’s Tudum on April 4, Jamie was confirmed to portray Duke, the eldest son of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy). The character was recently played by Barry Keoghan in the 2026 film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, and by Conrad Khan in the sixth and final season of the original series.
“I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early '50s,” said Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. “There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”

He further teased the direction of the narrative, saying the series “will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel, and it will be a hell of a ride.”
The sequel series is set to run for two six-episode seasons and will center on an “older, wiser, more ambitious and more dangerous” Duke Shelby, as he navigates the evolving criminal landscape in the aftermath of World War II.
Joining Jamie in the cast are Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton, Jessica Brown Findlay known for Downton Abbey, and Lashana Lynch, who starred in The Day of the Jackal. The series will also mark the television debut of actress Lucy Karczewski.
Jamie is widely recognized for starring in the critically acclaimed dance-musical film Billy Elliot, which earned him a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Child Performance. His film credits also include Rocketman, All of Us Strangers, Snowpiercer, and Fantastic Four, among others.
Originally debuting on BBC Two in 2013, Peaky Blinders drew inspiration from a real-life street gang operating after World War I.
Netflix has yet to announce the official release date of the new sequel.
