On this day, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid celebrates her 56th birthday. She is considered one of the most influential figures in the Philippine entertainment industry and a pillar of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
From winning the television talent show Ang Bagong Kampeon in 1984 to earning the title “Asia’s Songbird,” Regine has established a reputation for herself with her powerful vocal range, signature belting technique, and emotional delivery.
Marking her 40th year in the music industry in 2026, she remains one of the best-selling OPM artists of all time, with a career spanning four decades of hit songs, sold-out concerts, and numerous accolades.

On the Wings of Love
This song was originally written and performed by American musician Jeffrey Osborne. It gained popularity through Regine’s version of the single released in 1999 on her album R2K Album. According to Musixmatch, the song “describes a deep romantic connection where the singer sees their partner as a source of light and happiness, symbolizing them as an angel with the 'wings of love' metaphor that represents the feeling of being in love, inseparable and emphasizing the exclusivity and joy of their relationship.”
Dadalhin
One of her classic tracks, “Dadalhin” was written and composed by Tats Faustino as part of Regine’s 11th studio album, Reigne. The timeless song dominated airwaves, karaoke playlists, and streaming platforms with its touching and relatable lyrics.
You've Made Me Stronger
Written by Trina Belamide, this song from Regine’s album My Love Emotion, talks about finding strength and growth after a heartbreak. The lyrics express gratitude towards the person who caused the pain, highlighting how the experience of heartbreak led to personal empowerment and a new beginning.
In a post shared by Trina, she said the song has become a staple track for those “who have gone through heartache” and hopefully will the “strength and inspiration to keep moving forward.”
Araw Gabi
Written by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab, this song was a wedding present for his wife, Emmy. In a birthday message he wrote for Regine, the National artist expressed gratitude for how Regine beautifully interpreted the song.
Kailangan Ko’y ikaw
As the main theme for Regine and Robin Padilla's romance comedy film of the same title, this track expresses intense love and yearning. It was composed by Regine’s husband Ogie Alcasid and was part of the soundtrack of the film.
The song earned numerous accolades, such as 23rd Awit Awards Song of the Year, Best Ballad Recording, Best Movie/ TV/ Stage Theme Song Recording, Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist as well as 17th PMPC Star Awards for Movies Movie Theme Song of the Year and 49th FAMAS Awards Best Movie Theme Song in 2001.
Narito Ako
Composed by Nonong Pedero and originally by Maricris Bermont, “Narito Ako” was first performed by Regine in her concert with Janno Gibbs in 1987. Later on, she had her version of the song rearranged by the song’s original arranger Louie Ocampo for her second album, Nineteen ’90.
Shine
Another song written by Trina Belamide, “Shine” was her entry to the 1996 Metropop Song Festival. The song became a hit and was loved by listeners as it is “a song for loved ones who bring out the best in us.
Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka
Another song written by Ogie, “Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka” is a special song for Ogie and Regine as it was composed for Asia's Songbird. In an interview, Ogie revealed that he wrote the song for Regine whom he had a secret crush on at the time. The song was used in the soundtrack of Regine's movie with Christopher De Leon. Later on, it became one of the best-loved wedding songs.
