Fresh from his role as the heroic and charming Olsen Bonifacio in the action drama series Roja, Kyle Echarri will soon be seen in the upcoming film 18th Rose, which has him shifting from taking down the bad guys to making romantic gestures in his first major lead role in a movie.
“I’m very thankful for all the roles I’ve gotten, especially how complex it’s been. From Senior High to Pamilya Sagrado to Ride to Isang Daang Awit to Roja and everything. I’ve done so many things.
"This is a light rom-com drama. It’s a new thing for me. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a while na, especially after so many complex roles. Again, I’m super happy and blessed. Something light. Something na pa-kilig na ng konti. Yung hindi naman ako binubugbog, yung ganun (laughs). So I’m excited for that, for people to see a whole different side of me and also a whole different character na never ko ginampanan. And also this is my first English-speaking role. First 100% English-speaking siya, which you all know is my mother tongue so talagang in-enjoy ko siya,” he told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview.
Another blessing from doing Roja that Kyle is thankful for is the positive response to his onscreen pairing with Kai Montinola, whom he first worked with in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya last year. Although there are no concrete plans for them to work together onscreen again soon, the talented actor looks forward to another project together in the future.
“We love you guys so much. Alam niyo naman yun. We’re very, very thankful for every single one of you guys. Kahit wala pang pinapangako sa Team Kai-Kyle, basta alam niyo na suportado kami sa inyo at suportado kayo sa amin. At mahal namin kayo. Thank you for all the love and thank you for all the support, for giving it to me and Kai. Who would have thought from our short and sweet episode sa MMK, nakarating tayo sa Roja. Well, maganda yung storya ni Ice and ni Olsen. It’s bittersweet. Yes, there’s a lot more to look forward to I think between the two of them. Basta abangan niyo na lang. I’m very excited for whatever we can bring in the future. Abangan niyo lang, baka sa future. I’m sure dadating yun,” he said.

If he could choose what their next project with Kai would be, Kyle said a story that could focus more on their relationship would be fun to do.
“Maybe romance, comedy, feeling ko may drama din. Puwede naman. Hindi naman maiiwasan yun sa mga Filipino shows kaya puwede din. Or rom-com all the way. Nakaka-miss talaga yung light eh, yung mga feel good na movies. I love watching that, especially now. Especially because I’ve been doing a lot of action. Yung mga pinapanuod ko ngayon rom-com and sobrang hilig din manuod si Kai ng mga rom-com. With the chemistry we have, with the connection that we have as friends, yung nabuo namin, I feel like kaya namin gawin yun. Okay naman. Tingnan natin in the future,” he added.
