MANILA - Actress Angel Locsin has come to the defense of her stepson, Joaquin Arce, one of the Ultimate 8 of "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0," after critics branded him a nepo baby.
"Bihira lang akong mag social media ha. Pero nagulat ako sa comments ng ilang tao dito. Ano namang kasalanan ni Joaquin at naging asawa ko ang dad niya para ma-brand sya as nepo baby? Para namang hindi ako nag dyip o bus papuntang tapings ko dati. Kalevel ko pala si Discaya? Lol," the "Darna" actress said via X.
"Pero 'yung pera ko hindi galing sa nakaw. Yung 12k na boto ko kay Joaquin sa buong journey nya, baka dagdagan ko maasar ko lang 'yung ibang makagawa ng issue. My son could have asked me for a project, but ang hiniling niya is mag audition sa PBB. Wag bitter. Nakakapanget 'yan."
(I rarely use social media. But I was shocked by the comments of some people here. What exactly is Joaquin’s fault that I became his dad’s wife for him to be branded as a nepo baby? It’s not like I used to ride jeepneys or buses going to my tapings before. So I’m on the same level as Discaya? Lol. But my money didn’t come from stealing. The 12k votes I gave Joaquin throughout his whole journey , maybe I’ll add more just to annoy those who keep making an issue. My son could have asked me for a project, but what he asked for was to audition for PBB. Don’t be bitter. That makes you ugly.)
On Day 124 of PBB, Joaquin finally faced "The Ultimate Tapatan," where he had to answer questions from the ex-housemates serving as the jury.
One of the questions was: "Do you consider yourself a nepo baby or you were influenced by your family that they are rich, famous or did they just vote for you with their money?"
Joaquin replied: "Well, sinabi ko sa pamilya before coming here not to spend, and I believe that whatever I get, I should deserve. Everything I want to achieve in this industry as an actor, because it's my dream to be an actor, gusto ko na deserve ko siya.
"Kasi lagi akong tinatanong 'do you want to work with your stepmom? Do you want to work with Tita Angel in the future?' Lagi kong sinasabi na I think it's a prize to work with her. I think I have to deserve it. I think I have to be a good enough actor to be able to act with her. And with that being said, I think if I were to win and if I were to want to deserve a spot here, I think I have to deserve it, dapat 'yung taumbayan ang pipili sa akin," Joaquin said.
