Actress Rica Peralejo explained how helpful it would be for the environment and road decongestion if more Filipinos would use bikes as a mode of commute. In her Instagram post, she shared the benefits it would have for everyone who’s willing to try it out.
“Because if at least a good number of us in Manila choose to be on bikes instead of cars then that is perhaps a good decrease in road congestion,” she wrote.

In her post, Rica made sure to walk the talk as she biked going to an event that she attended. In each slide of her post, she gave more details as to how biking could help ease traffic and how the increase in demand could help the system in the long run
“I honestly think it can be everyone but for starters, let’s ease in with all who have jobs or places to go within 5-10 kilometers. I know it’s scary and new to us, and protection is not yet in place so I understand the hesitation. That is why short distances are great for starters. We can begin too, with those who are willing to at least try,” she expressed.
While she acknowledged there are still unsafe spaces in the metro, the actress maintained how there are “lots of people” who are still alive and well.
“If we always say this is not possible because the ideal infrastructure is not in place then it’s chicken or egg–– who goes first? The demand or the system? At least for me, I know I want to increase the demand. That’s what I can do immediately and I am glad there are ways to do it safely,” she added.
She then pointed out that electronic bikes are already available in the market for those who are still hesitant due to the weather conditions in the country.

“You hardly sweat on one due to the pedal assist. Yes it’s hot, but it won’t be a workout. If you’re wondering about the cost–– do the math of your cab expenses or commute and compare to what an ebike can save you from. It’s more affordable than a car,” she reasoned.
For Rica, trying out biking as a commute is one step in improving the transport scene in the country and hopefully through her post, people would be encouraged to give it a shot.
“If you are someone who is willing to try and be part of what could be a good change for the nation then there is a way to go about it. I really do hope we all give bike commuting a chance,” she ended.
