Celebrating her 25th anniversary in showbiz this year, singer and actress K Brosas is looking forward to re-introducing herself to a newer generation of fans and music lovers through her upcoming concert 25K happening next month at the New Frontier Theater. Prior to embarking on an acting career, the 49-year-old headlined the band K and the Boxers. Since then, K said she has been content with the way her career has withstood the test of time.
“Akala ko nga hindi aabot eh (laughs). Pero di ba, sa show business, madami ngayon yung mga biglang sikat or yung hindi naaalagaan yung mga blessing na binibigay sa kanila, so nakakatuwa yung longevity di ba? Hindi mo kailangan ng sikat na sikat na career o palong palo ka. Kahit papaano, hindi ka nawawala.
"Ako, hindi lang as an artista, ang first love ko talaga is as a performer eh. Alam naman siguro ng pipitong followers ko yan (laughs). Na yun talaga ang first love ko, ang kumanta sa stage,” she told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview during the Midnight Dream Studio grand launch in Makati City last month.

Even though she pursued singing first, K revealed her acting roots while growing up. “Ang nakakatuwa lang, hindi alam ng karamihan, nung 12, 13, 14 ako, nag-PETA ako. Kasi may children’s theater di ba? Tapos teen theater. Kaya meron akong background sa theater. So para sigurong nadalian ako ng very, very light sa live. Kasi pag theater ka, sanay. Nakatulong yun.
"At the same time, may saltik na talaga ako mula bata (laughs). So yung comedy, given yun. Siyempre mas nauna talaga ako as a serious singer sa mga abroad kasi yun yung naging trabaho ko eh. Bukod sa mga comedy bar sa Pilipinas na tinatawag pa natin dati na sing-along bars. Bukod dun, nag-a-abroad ako, as a serious singer,” she explained.

While the younger generation may be more familiar to her work as a comedienne, K shared that she is happy that her old videos that went viral years ago have given her a new set of fans.
“Actually, ang nakakatuwa, ang dami pa lang mga Gen Z na hindi pa rin nakakalimot sa mga clips. Yun ang maganda sa digital era natin ngayon na lahat ng mga YouTube videos for life na yan. So madaming nag-re-repost ng mga 'Tuwing Umuulan,' na ang lalaki ng mga kinita ko dun di ba? Pero hanggang ngayon yung mga Gen Z, na bago sa paningin nila yun, (nasasabi nila) na siya pala yan? Siya pala yung OG, parang ganun. So nakakatuwa na yung mga coverage ko naman hindi yung mga katulad ko na menopausal na (laughs),” she shared.
As a performer, K admitted that she makes sure that she is continually improving on her performance to become more entertaining every time she comes out on stage. “Siyempre yung ating comedy, kailangan natin i-tweak or kailangan natin ibagay din sa crowd. Although yung crowd natin, aminin natin mga ka-edaran ko na or even older. Pero siyempre sa concert, kailangan natin mag-reinvent. yun naman siguro ang sikreto ng longevity sa showbiz eh. You always have to reinvent yourself. Para lagi kang nasa uso. Ganun!” she added.
During the MIdnight Dream Studio event, K revealed she was the first celebrity to use the massive studio for her official concert pictorial. “So ang concert na ito ay talagang celebration ng 25 years as a performer, singer, dancer, porn star, charot lang (laughs). And of course, gusto ko lang i-mention na ang laging gumagawa ng aking poster ay si Niccolo Cosme. At bininyagan ko itong MIdnight Dream Studio. Akong unang nag-shoot. Si Niccolo, kahit walang nagtatanong, ay photographer ko since birth, ibig sabihin mula nung nag-start ako 20 years ago siya na ang photographer ko,” she revealed.
