Ruth Gibbins, sister of the late One Direction member Liam Payne, took to social media to honor her brother as his final project, Building the Band, is set to premiere on Netflix.
The reality singing competition features Liam as one of the judges alongside Kelly Rowland and Nicole Scherzinger.
Netflix recently released the official trailer for the series, which will begin streaming on July 9.
On her Instagram Story, Ruth shared the trailer and expressed mixed emotions about the fact that Liam will not be able to watch the show. "I didn’t know whether to share this, but it felt weird when I’ve raved about Liam’s work and achievements for the last 15 years," she posted as reported by PEOPLE.
She continued: "I'm heartbroken he never got to see how great he is in this show. He knew he had done a good job, we all told him this when we were at filming, but watching it back, wow! You’re a star Liam, you always were and always will be."
Ruth shared her deep pride in the late One Direction star. "There are a range of emotions I felt watching this, but one of the main ones is immeasurable pride, always. Miss you more every day," she said.
Liam passed away at 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 16, 2024.
Liam sustained "extremely serious injuries" after falling from the third floor of Casa Sur Hotel as per the Buenos Aires police. His death was confirmed by the medics at the scene.
Liam debuted as a member of One Direction in 2008 after he auditioned for the X Factor. The group became one of the best-selling boy bands ever.
Their five albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014), and Made in the A.M. (2015), topped charts worldwide and produced hit songs like "What Makes You Beautiful," "Live While We're Young," and "Story of My Life," among others.
When One Direction went on hiatus starting in 2016, Liam signed with Republic Records in North America. In May 2017, he released "Strip That Down" as the lead single for his debut solo album.
In March 2017, Liam and his former girlfriend Cheryl Cole welcomed a baby boy.
