Prior to kicking off promotions for his Metro Manila Film Festival entry Rekonek earlier this month, actor and first time movie producer Gerald Anderson shared with the press some of his most cherished memories as a little boy growing up in the US. In Rekonek, Gerald is paired with actress Charlie Dizon and the couple are forced to navigate their relationship after the world goes offline during the holidays.
“My favorite holiday season is the Christmas season kasi marami akong memories nung bata ako and ang ganda ng theme and ang ganda ng kuwento ng movie. Paano kapag nawalan tayo ng internet ten days before Christmas? Can we still reconnect with our loved ones the way kung paano tayo dati nung wala pa tayong internet? Aminin natin, social media is a tool. Malaking part siya ng trabaho natin. But it can also be a distraction sa relationships, with our loved ones,” he said.
Gerald admitted that he is proud of his first producing credit, which is also the lone Christmas-themed film entry in this year’s MMFF. Aside from serving all the “feels,” Gerald said he just wanted to make Pinoy families feel more of the holiday spirit, just like what his parents did for him growing up.
“Favorite Christmas memory ko is nung binigyan ako ng bike ng mga magulang ko. There was one Christmas na may Christmas tree kami tapos nung madaling araw ginising ako ng tatay ko na parang natataranta. I think I was around eight years old or nine years old. Tapos paglabas ko ng kuwarto, parang kunwari uma-acting siya na napasukan kami tapos kakalabas lang. And then sabi niya, kakalabas lang ni Santa Claus. And he left the door open na parang talagang may blocking pa talaga eh, may production. And then andun lahat ng gifts namin. Kakaalis lang daw ni Santa Claus. As in parang kakalabas lang ng pinto. Kasi before ako matulog, wala pang regalo eh. Sabi nila baka raw hindi darating. Nung madaling araw, ginising ako. And then paglabas ko sa sala, punong puno naman ng regalo. And then sakto, nag-so-snow pa so may ganung snow feeling. So I’ll never forget that. That’s why I’m really excited for this movie,” he shared.

Hoping to touch people’s hearts with his newest film, Gerald promised that Rekonek will be his Christmas gift to his fans this year. He talked about his reaction after watching the film’s full trailer for the first time.
“Sa trailer pa lang ang dami ng emotions eh. But I promise you, the movie is amazing. So sana mapanuod niyo. Sana mapanuod niyo lahat ng entries. All the entries are beautiful. Pero siyempre ho, unahin niyo yung Rekonek. Dalhin niyo yung pamilya niyo, pati yung kapitbahay.”
