Despite being busy with his newly launched Kolorcoaster album and an upcoming sold-out concert, singer-songwriter Maki still made sure to use his platform to speak about things that matter.
During his Kolorcoaster album release party in Pasay City, the young artist emphasized how important it is for him to use his voice and speak out on the recent corruption issues in the Philippines.
“I'm the type of artist kasi na wala naman akong so much credibility when it comes to political stance. It's just that morally speaking, I know that I'm fighting for the things that are right. And I will say things that are right. I believe that is right. At confident ako doon na magsasabi ako ng mga ganun sa mga social media platforms ko, even when I'm singing in front of the stage,” he bravely stated.
He added that some government officials and certain politicians only show up during elections but never genuinely serve the people.
“It's just sad that we're living in a country full of love, but at the same time, yung mga nagseserbisyo sa atin, sila pa yung parang hindi tayo mahal. Mahal na mahal nila tayo pag botohan, pero pag nandyan na sila sa posisyon, nalilimutan na nila tayo. And I don't think that's love,” he expressed.
Maki got even more candid, noting that he recognizes his reach and wants to use it to influence others and open their eyes.
“I'm a singer na I want people to realize, and I want Filipinos to wake up. Na meron kasi kaming power na to influence people, and to make them see, and for them to be knowledgeable,” he mentioned.
He also clarified that he’s doing this genuinely, and not just for the sake of clout.
“I'm not just telling these things for me to gain clout, for me to just sabihan na parang, ‘Ay, very good ka, Maki, kasi nagpo-post ka’ ganyan. Morally speaking, I need to speak up because you guys need to know this. You guys need to know these things, na ang daming nangyayari sa Pilipinas na hindi niyo nakikita,” he said.
Maki went on to share how he personally felt the lack of support from the government while growing up.
“Kasi pwedeng may sabihin yung mga tao na nagsasalita lang ng ganito kasi nasa middle class ka, ganito na ganyan. Ako, lumaki po ako sa hirap. Hindi po ako mayaman. Pinaghirapan ko po itong mga na-achieve ko. Alam ko po ang nararanasan ng mga binabagyo at may tulo sa bahay. At naglalampaso every time na may bagyo. Alam ko po ang pakiramdam ng gano'n. At alam ko rin po ang pakiramdam ng hindi nasusuportahan ng gobyerno,” he expressed.
He added that it’s especially important to speak up now, with the OPM scene thriving and his message reaching an even wider audience.
“Para sa akin, ngayon na yung time, kasi umuusbong na yung OPM. So bakit hindi namin gagamit yung boses namin?” Maki shared.
