MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has declared April 22, 2025, Tuesday, a "Day of National Mourning" over the passing of actress and national artist Nora Aunor.
Aunor, who passed away on April 16, was to be given state funeral rites with full military honors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City on Tuesday noon.

Marcos signed Proclamation 870 on Monday, which noted that Aunor’s passing “is a great loss to the Filipino people and to the nation's cultural and artistic community.”
It also cited her outstanding contribution to Philippine cinema, television, and music, which has “left a lasting legacy on the nation's collective memory and identity.”
“The nation mourns and joins the family and friends of National Artist Nora Cabaltera Villamayor (Nora Aunor) in this moment of grief and remembrance,” the proclamation said.
Aunor was conferred the Order for National Artist in 2022 for her significant contributions in the Philippine media and theater. Aside from being a distinguished actress, she was also a film producer and singer.

“Her artistry, depth, and dedication as a performer elevated the standard of excellence in the fields of arts and culture and inspired a generation of actors, filmmakers, and audiences, both in local and international stage,” the President said.
Marcos ordered that Philippine national flag be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset, on all government buildings and installations throughout the Philippines and abroad on April 22, 2025 as a sign of mourning.
