Alas Pilipinas Women at the 2026 AVC Women's Cup. Volleyball World CANDON, Ilocos Sur — Alas Pilipinas demolished Kyrgyzstan in straight sets, 25-9, 25-11, 25-17, in Pool A action of the 2026 AVC Women's Cup on Monday at the Candon City Arena.
The hometown heroes dominated from the first serve to match point, getting the job done in just 70 minutes.
“Inisip lang namin ‘yung mga lapses namin nung last game, and ginawan lang namin ng paraan para maka-recover and mabalik ‘yung kumpyansa ng bawat isa,” said middle blocker Thea Gagate, who led the Filipino attack with 11 points on eight spikes, two blocks, and one ace.
Veteran Jov Gonzaga added 10 points on eight attacks and two blocks, while captain Alyssa Valdez chipped in nine markers.
They tallied 48 attacks — an impressive showing, compared to the visiting side which only had 12 converted spikes.

With the win, the Philippines has improved to 2-1 in the groups of the tournament presented by the PSC, FIVB, AVC, Volleyball World and Candon City headed by Mayor Eric Singson.
It was a bounce-back win, after a five-set collapse at the hands of Australia just yesterday, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-25, 11-15.

Notably, the logo of the embattled Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) on the national team’s jackets were covered during the match. The coaching staff declined to comment on the action.
Alas faces South Korea tomorrow, June 9 — an opportunity to boost its chances for a semifinals spot.
