CANDON, Ilocos Sur — Chinese Taipei has advanced to the AVC Cup final for the first time.

This, as they swept Kazakhstan, 25-23, 25-16, 25-14, in the semifinals on Saturday at the Candon City Arena. 

Setter Liao Yi-jen, who previously played in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) with the King Whale Taipei, steered Taipei’s offense with 21 excellent sets.

Yu-Chun Tsai had 18 points to lead all scorers, while Yi-Chi Chang added 14 markers.

This marks the squad’s best finish by far at the continental level, as their previous strongest results were bronze medals in the 2023 and 2025 AVC Nations Cup, and 2006 Doha Asian Games.

Meanwhile, despite earning a huge upset on Friday against defending champion Vietnam, Kazakhstan could not pour in the momentum in today’s game after the straight-set loss.

Tatyana Yatskiv paced their side with 12 points, as the Kazakhs eye a bronze medal finish in the tourney presented by the PSC, FIVB, AVC, Volleyball World and Candon City headed by Mayor Eric Singson.
