MANILA — Bryan Bagunas waited for his moment—and he seized it.

After a knee injury, Bagunas returned to action, and it was in the Philippines' first game at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.

The Alas skipper almost led a comeback, but the team fell short against Tunisia, 13-25, 17-25, 23-25, on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Still, Bagunas was a bright spot after an opening day loss, leading the charge with 23 points anchored on 20 attacks, two aces, and one block to go with six receptions.

"Sobrang saya ako kasi almost a year bago ako nakabalik sa loob ng court. Sobrang masaya ako na nakakatulong ulit ako sa team," he said.

For him, Alas Men showed what really they are capable of during the third set.

"For me, ‘yun nga, ‘di good start pero for the third set, nakita ko naman ‘yung potential ng men’s volleyball," he said.

Bagunas hopes the team would ease the tense and lessen the faults for them to have a fighting chance: "Nakita naman natin sa game na napakaraming errors. Siguro less errors sa next game and focus sa mga little mistakes."

Alas Men will take on Egypt next in Pool A.
