MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – PLDT is off to a winning start in the AVC Women's Champions League.

The High Speed Hitters made quick work of Australian squad Queensland Pirates, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12, in the Philippine-hosted tourney on Sunday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

As expected, Fil-Canadian star spiker Savi Davison led the charge by dropping 14 attack points, while unusual hero and former national team member Mika Reyes collected 11 points on nine attacks, one block and an ace.

"Of course, we’re very grateful for this opportunity kasi hindi naman din lahat nabibigyan ng chance na ganito, lalo na AVC pa ‘to," said Reyes.

Cuban reinforcement Wilma Salas, who's now donning a different shade of red jersey after playing for Petro Gazz last 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference, listed 10 markers.

Notably, Kianna Dy made her first start in 641 days, or since July 20, 2023 when she was still with now-defunct PVL squad F2 Logistics. She chipped in four points and three digs.

Riding the momentum of a dominant showing in the first two sets, PLDT breezed to a explosive 9-1 run in the third frame en route to a straight-set victory.

PLDT hopes to continue its good start as it takes on Thailand powerhouse Nakhon Ratchasima, set for Tuesday, April 22.

Earlier, fellow Pinoy team Creamline swept Jordan's Al Naser Club, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, making it two wins for the Philippines in Day 1 of the continental tilt.
