Filipina tennis star Alex Eala will take on Spain's Cristina Bucșa in the second round of the 2025 US Open.
This, after Bucșa took care of business against American qualifier Claire Liu in their first round match, 6-2, 6-1, early on Tuesday, Manila time.
The 27-year-old Bucșa, who is ranked 95th in the world by the WTA, needed just an hour and 22 minutes to complete the victory.
The winner of their match will advance to play the winner of the showdown between 19th seed Elise Mertens of Belgium and New Zealand's Lulu Sun.
Eala, 20, made history when she outlasted Danish 14th seed Clara Tauson in the first round of the US Open, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (13/11), to become the first player from the Philippines to win a singles match in a Grand Slam.
Currently ranked 75th by the WTA, Eala is having a breakthrough season in the WTA Tour -- one that is highlighted by a giant-killing run in the Miami Open in March where she defeated a handful of Grand Slam champions including former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
