Alex Eala bowed out of the Ilkley Open in the quarterfinal stage, Thursday in the United Kingdom.

The Filipina fell short against defending champion Rebecca Marino of Canada,  1-6; 6-0; 7-6 (7-4).

The 34-year-old Marino is ranked 107th by the WTA.

It was a powerful showing from Eala in the opening set, as she surged to a 2-1 lead. It took her less than 30 minutes to win the opener, 6-1.

Marino then managed to break in the second set  1-0, which led to a quick momentum change that brought her up by 6-0.

Eala picked up the pace in the third set, winning a love game for a 1-0 lead then recovering from a 1-3 deficit by winning three games in a row for a 4-3 advantage.

In a nip-and-tuck affair, Marino proved to be more composed in the end game as she outlasted Eala in the decider.

Eala continues to gear up for grass season, with the Wimbledon happening on June 30.
