MANILA -- Macau exited the PBA Season 50 Commissioner's Cup with a morale-boosting 105-98 win over Phoenix, Wednesday evening at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Black Knights, who are competing as a guest team, are already out of contention for a playoffs spot as they entered the game with a 2-9 win -loss record.
But they made sure that they will end the conference on a high note, holding on for a win that dented Phoenix's hopes of claiming a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
Macau wound up with a 3-9 slate, while Phoenix slipped to 6-5 heading into their final elimination round game against San Miguel Beer.
Jenning Leung led Macau with 32 points, while import Tony Mitchell had 13 points and grabbed 22 rebounds.
"It's always good to finish with a win. For the organization, it's good to finish on a positive note," said Leung afterward.
Kenneth Tuffin had 27 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort for Phoenix, while Johnathan Williams III had a 20-point, 21-rebound, 8-assist game.
However, they lost grip of an 89-83 lead in the final seven minutes, with Leung waxing hot to put Macau in control.
Macau led by as many as 20 points, 34-14, in the first quarter before Phoenix regrouped, but fell short of completing the comeback.
