MANILA, Philippines – Magnolia coach Chito Victolero gave Peter Alfaro his flowers as the young guard delivered a performance "worthy of being the Best Player of the Game" nod.
The Hotshots stayed alive in the ongoing PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup, partly thanks to Alfaro's efforts on both ends of the court, dropping 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, and a steal without turning the ball over in their much-needed 110-104 triumph over Phoenix, Thursday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

"Peter Alfaro, he deserves also to be the Best Player. He has the heart of a lion because he is [from] San Beda. That's why siguro malaking factor 'yon kasi he's a member of a champion team," Victolero said after that game.
When asked which aspect of Alfaro's game impressed him the most, Victolero said his toughness and ability to defend.

"Actually, his toughness. [I'm] very impressed with Peter the way he defend, practice, the way he handles himself. The points, I think bonus na lang 'yon, e. But 'yung toughness ni Peter on both ends of the floor, 'yung kaniyang depensa, same time 'yung offense niya, hindi siya natatakot," said Victolero.
"I think 'yun 'yung nakita ko sa kaniya, na we can rely on him in these kinds of situations, which is our backs are against the wall."
Still, the reality stands — Magnolia needs to win its next games to continue pursuing a quarterfinal spot in the conference.
Their next assignment is Eastern, set for next Sunday, January 26.
