MANILA -- Boxers Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam will carry the Philippine flag in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino announced the development on Monday.
Both Petecio and Paalam are competing in their second Olympics, after winning silver medals in their debuts in Tokyo in 2021.
Petecio earned her ticket to Paris in March, when she defeated Esra Yildiz Kahraman of Turkey in the women's 57kg division in the first World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Italy. Paalam, meanwhile, secured his spot earlier this month after a win over Sachin Siwach of India in the men's 57kg class in the second OQT in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Paris Games will run from July 26 to August 11, with the opening ceremony set at the Jardins du Trocadéro and River Seine.
Petecio and Paalam are part of the Philippines' five-athlete boxing delegation to the Summer Games, along with Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Eumir Marcial and and debutants Aira Villegas and Hergie Bacyadan.
Also set to represent the country in Paris are: pole vaulter EJ Obiena; fencer Samantha Catantan; gymnasts Carlos Yulo, Aleah Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo and Levi Ruivivar; rower Joanie Delgaco; and weightlifters John Ceniza, Elreen Ando, and Vanessa Sarno.
