Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden attended a commander-in-chief farewell ceremony in Virginia on Thursday (January 16).
Biden told the troops gathered at the event that serving as their commander-in-chief had been "the greatest honor" of his life.
During the event, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin presented both Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, with Distinguished Public Service Medals, the highest award given by the Department of Defense.
Biden hands over power to Republican Donald Trump at noon (1700 GMT) on Monday (January 20). Trump will return to the White House after defeating his rival and current Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 2024 elections.
